WHITNEY's Story...
"Whitney," pure and simple, is a pure mutt, a beautiful Shepherd girl with a mysterious mix. She's tall, leggy and slender, just under 20 pounds and about 8 mos old. But it's those limpid eyes and antennae-like ears that put "Whitney" in front of the pack on death row at the overcrowded shelter. Plus, "tell-tail" signs of a mutilated tail evoked sympathy for her cause and, ironically, may have spared her life. All agreed "Whitney" had suffered enough in her young life and was too young to die. The shelter contacted SOS, Save Our Stays, a rescue group in Sugar Land, and they brought her to True Blue Friends. Whitney was timid, at first, but soon jumped in and now tumbles and and tosses around with the other shelter puppies on a big bed in the center of the playroom. She is sweet-natured, polite, and walks daintily on a leash, so she would make a fine walking companion, allowing you time to meditate---without pulling and playing tug of war, If you want someone in your life that only has eyes (and ears) for you, come by Tuesday's Rice University Farmer's Market, from 4-7pm, and meet our precious little lady, "Whitney." Contact Janice at or 713.592.2299 to arrange a meeting with Whitney.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

WHITNEY, a Houston German Shepherd Dog/Basenji dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog/Basenji for sale in Houston, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog/Basenji dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog/Basenji breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog/Basenji rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
