Monte is just a fabulous little happy beagle! He is a future therapy dog if there ever was one, so if you have ever wanted to get a pup certified, this is your dog! He was dropped at a kill shelter in Southern Missouri by his "family". (I suspect due to his medical issues, the eyes in particular). But an Ozark rescue angel pulled him and contacted Blind Dog Rescue Alliance just in time. He has been at my farm for a month now and had his one eye removed, his teeth pulled, his ears cleaned, and growths removed... total overhaul! This guy is ready to go! And wants SO deeply to have a family. When I gave him his first bath, he sat there, put his head back and closed his eyes in bliss. Such a character. My dogs all act like I'm trying to kill them. All physical contact is bliss to Monte. When he is happy he closes his eyes and smiles. He has gone from a pleasant little guy to a joyous, joyous pup, actually leaping into the air to "Bahooo!" from pure happiness while we walk. The tail never stops wagging. The face never stops smiling. He jaunts about like nobody's business. Just thrilled with life and everybody in it. This little guy has never met a stranger. He is not food motivated, treats mean nothing to him. But praise means everything. He is happy laying on the couch next to you or on the floor in the same room (he'd probably like a bed of his own) or on your bed (I let them on the bed). He doesn't nose you or bother you any, just likes to be near his person. The only downside to Monte is his recall. But with some praise and practice I think he'd do well. I know beagles aren't the most popular dogs for obedience, but I'll bet he'd do great - once he got over loving being around all those people and dogs! *Have I said how happy he is?
