My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

8/1/11 UPDATE: Barkley is continuing to make progress every day. He still seems to do best with one person at a time. We no longer feel he is partial to a male owner - he just seems to place his trust with one person at a time. He is doing better each day, playing with our 4 other does. He likes romping in the yard, likes the garden hose (he jumps up and down to get a drink like a kangaroo) and oddly enough, likes the vaccuum. He is probably the only dog in the world that with the upholestry attachment (which is a very gentle small rolling brush) you can vaccum his sheeding fur!

Barkley seems to express himself by grumbling. He is a vocal guy, and does still get unnerved by loud noises, and commotion. He does still pace and circle a bit, but he is able to calm down and relax on a dog bed or chair. This is huge progress for Barkley. He is learning how to relax day by day.

He is non destructive, and totally house broken. He is not food aggressive, good with dogs, and very very good with cats. He just does not share his affection with more than one person at a time. He needs a calm household, without small children. He loves going for walks, and did we mention the hose?!!

Barkley is a 3 year old smooth coated Collie mix. He is good with other dogs and cats! After living with his foster family for a few months, and working on his training, Barkley is starting to be more accepting, and less fearful. Barkley seems to bond with one person first, that he looks to for reassurance and to be his alpha. Over time, he can warm up to new people once he feels secure, and calm. The trick with Barkley is to let him come to you when he is ready. He needs time to understand his surroundings, and feel secure in them.

Barkley really seem to like cats alot - he is always "checking up" on them in his foster house. He is good with other dogs, but really is unsure how to play. He is working on it. (He has four foster brothers and sister's helping him with that) He is housebroken, and not destructive. He sits, gives both paws on command for treats. He likes to sit at your feet and watch tv with you.

Barkley would do best in a home with an experienced dog owner, who can provide him with constancy, and continue to work with him on his training. We are not sure what happened in Barkley's past, but it was definately something that has shaken him, and he needs with someone with patience and a calm enviornment to help him be the dog he is destined to be.
