GAVIN's Story...
Meet Gavin. This adorable Schnauzer mix, less than 2 years old, was returned to us this past week by his adoptive family after almost one year with them. Typical of Schnauzers – although he is not a purebred – Gavin can be pretty energetic, territorial (protective?) and, not surprising, prefers not to be crated for long periods. Since his return, Gavin has been a perfect guest, not pest. He is very good natured, loves being around the humans in the house but plays well with other dogs, especially with the larger dogs. He even likes cats; and they like him, especially for not chasing them. We were told Gavin was very sensitive to noise and would bark at the slightest sound but he seldom barks even when greeting you at the front door or being awakened at night by the barking of other dogs. Gavin is a nice, medium-sized dog at around 35 pounds. Stop by the Rice University Farmer's Market this Tuesday, from 4-7pm, if you are looking for a great family pet for children of all ages. Contact Janice at or 713.592.2299 to arrange a meeting with Gavin.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

GAVIN, a Houston Schnauzer (Standard) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Schnauzer (Standard) for sale in Houston, or seeking a Schnauzer (Standard) dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Schnauzer (Standard) breeders who help with Schnauzer (Standard) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
