GEMMA's Story...
Gemma was found wandering on a highway service road one freezing February afternoon, likely dumped, in a squalid Third Ward neighborhood. She had difficulty walking due to horribly overgrown nails. She was immediately taken to our vet for a health check and vaccinations. The doctor said she appeared to have been spayed already and that she is approximately ten years old. The most amazing finding–she is heartworm-free! For a dog living outdoors in Houston, Texas, that is nothing short of a miracle. After her nail trim, we were delighted to see Gemma practically skip across the room, finally pain-free.

Gemma went to her foster home, where she quickly discovered she loved sleeping on the sofa. ALL DAY long! With her one piqued ear and soft, inquiring eyes, Gemma inquisitively ventured out of her shell to discover the little pleasures in life: a warm bed, regular meals (she has a very healthy appetite), and friendly people. She plays well with people, dogs and cats and adds a calm, sweet presence to any room she enters. She would love a warm, welcoming home to spend her remaining years. Can you provide Gemma the home she truly deserves? Contact Brenda at heartsunleashed@live.com to arrange a meeting with Gemma.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

GEMMA, a Houston Chow Chow/Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chow Chow/Labrador Retriever for sale in Houston, or seeking a Chow Chow/Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chow Chow/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Chow Chow/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
