Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We call Virginia "Ginny." Ginny came to us a little over two weeks ago, on August 20, 2011. The shelter had described her as a sweet but broken spirit. Ginny wouldn't walk up steps or walk into the house. She seemed so scared - as if she had never been in a house before. We carried her in and laid her on her bed in the living room and brought her food and water bowls to her. She would not (maybe could not) get up to eat or drink. But she did eat and drink laying down. She was that way for a few days and each day that passed, she got stronger. She started to notice things, including the other dogs. We didn't introduce her to our other dogs until she was ready. We kept them separated by a gate so she knew they were there. For the first couple of days, she didn't acknowledge them. As she regained her strength that first week, she attempted a step or two towards the dogs to play but would stop and lay down. Her spirit was willing but her body wasn't able to do that just yet. She was very afraid of walking on any type of flooing except carpet. I'm continuing to work with her on that. She walks on hardwood floor in certain areas of the house now, but is scared in other parts. So, we continue to help her get over that fear. She is now walking to the front door where there's no carpet. Progress! As she gets stronger and more relaxed, her personality continues to come out. She loves other dogs, cats, kids and adults too. She does a twirl when she sees her food bowl coming! And she's starting to wrestle with the other dogs. It's awesome to see. She can now play or take walks for quite a while before she's ready for a nap. Each day holds something new for Ginny as she's able and willing to do them now.
