My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"KIWI"
Cinnamon-chested Green Cheek conure
fostered by Jennifer in Jacksonville

Kiwi is about 2.5 years old, and is a cinnamon-chested, green-cheeked conure. She is a young bird and not well socialized. She is learning to trust me, and has a very playful spirit. I call her my squeaky bird. She loves to chitter chatter at you. We play games, she will stick one foot through the cage bars and attempt to grab your finger. It’s very charming until she leans down and bites! She is a bitey bird right now, and I do get bitten every day. She appears to be doing this in play, and I correct her with a “No”! It is a slow going as I try to show her acceptable ways to play. She has only bitten me hard once. She is mischievous and can open her cage doors, so we use plastic clips to keep them closed. She is very cute and endearing, even though she bites! She sleeps cuddled up to this fuzzy toy that hangs from the top of her cage. She also steps up. She has potential to be an awesome birdy companion once she settles down a little!

Update on Kiwi (April 2012): After many months, she has decided to trust me and doesn't bite me anymore. She loves to play and clown, climbing all over her cage. She is a bit cage defensive, and will try to nip you through the cage bars. She is a good bird who steps up nicely to a perch, and once out of her cage, she steps up to your finger. She has her own trademark noise with three-syllables that sound like she is saying "Squeaky bird!" She loves to groom other people. She loves to sit on your shoulder or head, but does not really like to be touched. She eats bird pellets, conure mix (with lots of interesting tidbits inside so she doesn't get bored) plus she loves fresh fruits and veggies. She enjoys applesauce and warm sweet potato, spooned to her like the royalty that she is! She thrives on praise! When she is a good bird, she doesn't want a sunflower seed as a treat. She will throw it on the floor like a game! But she loves to be told how good she is, and what a pretty bird she is. She will make a fantastic companion bird to a forever home and she would enjoy the company of another bird!
