"Hi there...do you love chocolate? My beautiful coat is the deepest shade of chocolate that you will ever see. Oh, by the way...my name is HERSHEY, and I'm a two-year-old Chihuahua! I know you have probably seen a lot of Chihuahuas of all different colors, but did you know that a chocolate Chihuahua is a rare color? I guess I'm pretty special, then. I really love going for walks, and I walk perfectly on the leash. I am small, so I will fit perfectly into your lap for those snuggles, and I have a lustrous, shiny coat. I'm in need of new forever home with a little yard to play and run around in, and, of course, a little snuggly to sleep in at night in the house. I prefer to be in an adult home, and I'd need to be the only dog in my new home. So, when you come to the shelter, be sure to ask to see the chocolate Chihuahua named HERSHEY, and I know you will not be disappointed when you see me. Won't you please help make my dreams come true for a new "furever" home, and stop by the shelter real soon. Love, Hershey". Kennel #54

We are the Animal Shelter for the City of El Cajon. We also house animals for the City of La Mesa. We take in strays and animals relinquished by their owners from these two City's only. We adopt out the animals that are not claimed by their owners. You do not have to live within the City to adopt an animal from us. We sometimes have animals other than dogs and cats.
We are located in the City of El Cajon which is east of San Diego. 1275 N. Marshall is two blocks north of Fletcher Parkway, Marshall runs parallel with the trolley tracks.
We are open Tuesday thru Saturday 10am to 5pm. The latest we start an adoption is 4:30. We are closed Sundays and Mondays.
Our adoption fee for dogs is $80.00 and cats are $80.00 All other animal adoption fee's are based on the type of animal.
We do an evaluation with you and the animal to be sure that it is the best animal for you. We require that all children in the household under 9 years old be evaluated with the animal and if you are adopting a dog and you currently own a dog, your dog needs to be evaluated with the new dog to be sure they get along.
