This is what his foster family had to say about Gavin:
Gavin is sweet, calm, friendly, affectionate and he loves human companionship. It is never too much trouble for him to get up and go to another room to follow you, but he is never underfoot. He will wrap his arms around your waist if you ask him for a hug. He loves to hear his name and his tail wags as long as you are talking to him. He often comes over and just rests his head in your lap for some ear and head rubs.
He is social and friendly with everyone he meets. He was friendly to children he saw when out for a walk, responding to them the same as he does with adults. Gavin has no aggression. He is fine with other dogs, both male and female. He is fine with cats in the house (might chase a running cat but can be called off easily). However, he will chase anything that moves outside, including cats. He wants to meet other dogs when out on a walk but in a friendly way.
Gavin has not been crated. He is perfectly behaved and calm in the house and has been left for several hours with no negative results.
He craves human companionship he does follow me from room to room and waits for me at the door if I go outside or into the garage. Again he is very calm about it. He seems to love just hanging out with humans. He doesn’t really play with the other dogs, but will referee if they get too rowdy. He doesn’t chase balls but cruises around the yard looking for squirrels to chase.
Gavin is totally house trained and will go to the door when he needs to go outside. He can last 8 – 10 hours overnight without a problem. He needs some work on recall as he does not come when called. He does sit, and give a paw on command. He is perfectly behaved in the house.
Because he craves human companionship, I would think it wouldn’t be good for him to be left alone for hours every day. Probably better if he had a canine companion if that were the case. He tries to be the referee so only one other dog would probably be ideal. He doesn’t illicit negative responses in other dogs so he is fine with males or females. He really just blends right in and doesn’t have any real issues. He likes to be on the couch or the bed with humans but will also lie happily on the floor or on a dog bed.
