Knuckles's Story...
Meet Knuckles, a 3 year old male Doberman. Knuckles may be three, however, he is a BIG puppy and very playful. He loves to play with stuffed squeaky toys (though he goes through toys quickly) and loves to chew on bones.

He is still learning manners, but is very smart and very eager to please. He now knows how to sit before his meals, before a toy is thrown, and before he is leashed.

Knuckles is an adorable boy, who absolutely LOVES to cuddle- and when given the chance, tries to be a lap dog.

Knuckles does have some problems with insecurity and leash reactivity towards other dogs. Knuckles currently lives with two resident female dogs and two cats, and has done extremely well. He is able to go on walks with the resident dogs without any issues, however, Knuckles is working on better leash skills. Knuckles looks to his sisters for guidance, and will need to go to a home with a well-rounded dog to continue to help him with his insecurities and mature. Obedience class will be required with Knuckles in order to build a positive relationship with his new owner.

In addition, Knuckles is gaining weight, but still needs a few more pounds. Knuckle's left eye does not produce enough tears and he will require eye drops for life. Knuckles may need to see an eye specialist.

Please do your research on Dobermans, Knuckles is a high-energy, very smart boy, who will need an experienced handler. A fenced in yard is required.

Update: Knuckles has really settled into a routine, and has made a lot of progress. He now responds to "no", "sit", "stay", and "come". He enjoys being out in the barn with the horses, and acts appropriate- no barking, running around, ect. He has done well with young children, ages two through ten, however, has a lot of energy and power, so living with young children may not be appropriate for him. Recently he has started going to the back door whenever he wants to go outside- which most of the time he goes to the bathroom, but sometimes he just wants to play! He is also has learned that he is not allowed to invite himself into the people's bed at night, but is always the first one in the morning to give good morning kisses! Honestly, every person that has met Knuckles falls in love immediately! However, again, a fenced in yard and obedience class is required for Knuckles, as he is a very energetic and headstrong boy, and will require his owners to be committed to him forever. Knuckles would be a great dog for an active family/owner- LOVES to go on long walks/hikes!

Update: Knuckles has progressed quite a bit! He has proven himself to be a quick learner! After completing obedience class Knuckles can now sit, stay, lay down, come, crawl, and heel! He will also go into his crate and sit on command. He is now also fully house trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside.

Because Knuckles has advanced so much he can now go to a home as the only dog. He loves to jog (he does not pull and can keep up quite well on a 2 mile run), he loves getting his teeth brushed, his nails trimmed, and getting a bath! Knuckles really is a dream boy!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Knuckles, a Rochester/Buffalo Doberman Pinscher dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Doberman Pinscher for sale in Rochester/Buffalo, or seeking a Doberman Pinscher dog from a breeder in Rochester/Buffalo.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Rochester/Buffalo already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Rochester/Buffalo breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Doberman Pinscher breeders who help with Doberman Pinscher rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Rochester/Buffalo paves the way for another one to be saved.
