My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We got a shelter request to save five year old Poppy that included this line “This gal is so scared here in the shelter that she glues herself to the floor and tries to burrow under her bed. “ It broke our hearts to know how terrified she was so we agreed to take her into foster care.

Poppy arrived in her foster home in the evening and promptly disappeared. Really, we couldn’t find her and thought she must be hiding in the bushes in the yard, so we left the back door open for her that night. The next morning we discovered she had been hiding under the bed! It took a few nights but Poppy is now shyly friendly. She is especially fond of the 21 yr old in the home and always comes out of her hiding spots to greet her.

Poppy has a sweet personality and a chubby body. She is very overweight at the moment (20 lbs and we think she should be about 15 lbs). So far, she does not seem to be an inhaler of dog food, so we think she got fat from being fed people food. She is now on a diet and once she is at a healthy weight, she is going to be absolutely stunning longhair.
.
Poppy would like a home with a friendly canine brother as per the paperwork her previous owners filled out at the shelter; she has always lived with other dachshunds (her parents). We believe she would be ok with children age 10 and up. Poppy needs a home that will give her a nice walk every day, both to help with her weight loss and to build her confidence.

We’ve had Poppy spayed, micro chipped and vaccinated. We’ve also treated her for the kennel cough she caught during her stay at the shelter.

If you are interested in Poppy, please fill out an adoption application available at www.scdr.org and email Lindy at linla@comcast.net. The tax deductible donation for Poppy is $250.
