Kahn is a 19 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. He loves to be the “class clown” and will make you laugh and giggle with delight. He will need extra love and attention the 1st couple of months to get him adapted to you and your household. He readily steps up to a confident person, but it appears that he likes females better than males. He loves to play in the bath tub and his favorite movie seems to be “Cars”. Kahn is also a foot biter and chaser, so if you plan to let him walk around you home on the floor, wear boots, lol! He does also occasionally scream or screech for attention and will end that with a firm "stop it", so this vocalizing is an issue we are working on. He eats a mix of zupreem food varieties with fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts and his favorite treat is apples, he will say “Apple Mmmm”. Kahn prefers a quiet household; he can be vocal if there is a lot of noise around him.
Update on Kahn the Blue and Gold:
Hi I'm Cora, Kahn's foster mom. The longer I have Kahn in foster care, naturally the more I learn about his habits and behavior. Kahn is a strong willed macaw. It seems that when he feels well established in his home he becomes territorial in the house and will bite a stranger. He has a better disposition outside the home. Kahn challenges me on a daily basis but since I know him I have no fear. He lunges and I ignore it and continue to have him step up. Kahn has never hurt me once. I can do just about anything to him. I roll him over and rub his belly. He grabs my fingers and I hold him suspended in the air for a few moments and he loves it. He rolls over on his back again for more. I can play with his beak and get lots of very gentle kisses. He lays his head on my shoulder and closes his eyes. Plus I have no problem clipping his wings. I just pull them out gently and do a clip. He is a FABULOUS and loving bird.
There is no doubt that Kahn will do this again for a new adoptive parent. However it will require a short period of adjustment. After of week of getting Kahn I was already his best bud. I can't say that he will bond with more than one person in the household as he is in a one person environment at the moment. He will adore someone but he MUST HAVE DAILY ATTENTION (as do all parrots but even more so in this case)!!! So clearly Kahn will need just the right owner. Previous macaw experience is a must. To keep Kahn happy give him lots and lots of wood. I use non treated pieces from Home Depot or Lowe's.
