- Age: Young
- Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
- Sex: Female
I am already spayed, housetrained, in need of an experienced adopter, up to date with shots, good with dogs, and not good with cats.
Viala is a 2 year old petite, mostly black, female German Shepherd was left in the night drop-off box at the shelter along with her five 8 week old puppies. Her face and front legs show mostly-healed wounds. They were open and fresh when she arrived at the shelter and are possibly from fights with other dogs to protect her puppies. Its likely she will have some patches of white hair on her face when her wounds totally heal. She has only been in Rescue a short time and currently she is thin and her coat is in poor condition but that will change with time and groceries.
Viala is house-trained and is crate-trained and is very good inside the house. She would like to sleep on the bed but respects her human's wishes on this. She sleeps free on her dog bed at night and can go for 10 hours without needing to go outside. She is learning how to play and will chase a stick and occasionally will carry around a stuffed toy. Mostly she simply wants to be with her human. Her energy level is low, but we expect her to be a moderate energy dog once she gains weight and her nutrition improves.
She is an athletic dog and has occasionally likes to zoom around the yard. She does not want to stay in the yard unless she is with her person. She is kenneled when her foster mom is not at home. She seems to want to go for car rides (wants to jump inside) but we have not had her long enough yet to know how she does going over mountain roads. She is okay for short rides to the store.
Viala is still shy and decompressing from her former life and her time in the shelter. Currently she is reactive of dogs that pass by her yard and she will bark at them. At this time we do not know if Viala can live with another dog. In a controlled situation, on leash with her human she does mostly does okay but when she passes by dogs that bark at her she will cling to her person's side.
Viala is a lovely girl who has a lot of love to give and will make a wonderful companion for someone who wants a hang-out type dog. She is still learning about life as a pet and will need time to overcome shyness of things she does not know and her fear of other dogs. She is a level 3 dog who is living at a foster home in Seaside.
