My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men….the Shadow does. Our Shadow was left in a night drop pen at a county shelter on a lonely road. He was frightened, in bad shape and almost skeletal. He has probably seen a lot of evil in his 6 years….lived outside (he’s right at home outside in the rain….unlike most Pugs who need their own umbrella), took more time than most to adjust to dog food so he was probably fed table scraps….had a severe yeast infection in addition to eyes that were matted. His vision is very limited but he’s found his way around his foster home. His first experience in the foster home was several weeks of kennel cough and when that was past he had surgery to remove his ‘manhood’. During his confinement with the kennel cough and recovery from his surgery he was kept isolated in the den…now that is HIS room and he isn’t eager to mingle with the other foster Pugs. He can be an only dog.

Thanks to PROoF Shadow is UTD on his shots and we know he is heartworm negative. He has his own entrance and goes to the door when he wants to go outside. He is not 100% housebroken but he has the right idea and if someone opens the door….he learns quickly. He loves to lie on his foster mom’s lap and helps her read or watch the Dog Whisperer. Once Shadow felt safe and secure he bonded quickly with his foster family, although he can still be wary of quick moves and rolls on his back or side…to stay out of harms way. Shadow is 17 lbs now and gaining but we doubt he’ll ever be a rolly-polly Pug… but he does have the companion instincts that seem to come with the sweet flat face and curly tail. He is fawn but with a dark cast to his coat…some say he is particularly handsome because of his unique color (it might be his foster mom who said that!) Shadow wants a forever home and a family (or individual) who will love him and think he is the special Pug boy that he is. His adoption fee is $225 and he lives in Jacksonville.
