My name is Charlie!

UPDATED BIO 01/27/2012: Charlie here! Foster Mom took me to the groomer’s shop today and left me! I was not happy that she left me there, since she is leaving me during the week now to go out of town to work. Whatever she said to the nice groomer worked since FM was back in one hour. I am having separation anxiety from my FM so she is going to start taking me on the road with her to someplace called Jacksonville. I'm just happy to be with her and see her every day. FM said I will be in a hotel and I have to not bark all day while she is gone. She did say that she is looking for an apartment so that I can make more noise and not bother folks. So my new home has to understand that I have to see my 'human' on a daily basis.

Now, on another note, I am learning how to be part of the pack. I'm running with my brother & sister. When it’s time to go outside, all three of us run to the door to go out. I still love to go outside and wander around and around; FM said that my forever home must have a large fenced-in yard so I can be free to move around and smell everything. Another new thing I have been doing is hanging with the crew in the kitchen while FM is in there doing something that he calls ‘cooking’. My brother and sister sit in there and watch dad with eyes that never blink. So I joined in on this ‘don’t ever blink’ game. I'm not sure why they are so intense about this event, but hey, I am learning to be a big dog now. In addition, my brother & sister are learning that they can't be rough with me. YIPPEE! I'm such a lucky boy!

Charlie's perfect home would be one in which there is at least one stay-at-home parent, NO children, and preferably no stairs. He will always be a special needs fella, only because he did have head trauma and we do not know the extent of that. But he can have a long and happy life - to the potential adopters that will just accept him as he is. He loves to be cuddled in a blankie like a baby - so sweet! Charlie is only a wee little guy who so deserves a forever loving home. Will you open your home and heart to Charlie?

UPDATED BIO 12-23-2011: Hi-Ho everyone - Charlie here. It has been a little while since you heard from me, so I figured I should check in and let everyone know how I am doing. I love love love to wander outside and the longer I’m out there, the better I like it. Foster Mom says it helps me to exercise and stimulate my mind. Since I can only see shadows, my other senses are very sensitive and acute. With that in mind, I’ve gotta say that I do not like loud noises. FM plays classical music to me and I like it since its soothing (I also heard that the girlie dogs like a man who listens to classical music, too – whoo-ha!) I think cats are cool, but sometimes dog barks upset me when they are loud. So if you have another dog that is quiet, then that would be ok. FM has discovered my favorite spots to scratch - it’s the tummy, tail, and bum. Ok, so it’s everywhere. My perfect home will be with someone who understands my special needs and accepts me just like I am - awesome and perfect, ready to give lots of love to a permanent home. Please no children, they just don’t understand me. I really wanted a forever home for Christmas, but I think its getting really close, so get on the ball and put your adoption application in – the name’s Charlie – I can be your’s!

UPDATED BIO 11/09/2011: Good News! Charlie saw the doggie eye doctor last week and all of the redness and irritation in his eyes has gone - yippee! The holes that were in his corneas have completely healed as well. He now only needs meds in both eyes 2x a day until the medication is gone. Unfortunately, the doctor didn't think that Charlie will regain any vision in his right eye, the one that had the most trauma; but he feels (and FM concurs) that he can see shadows with his left eye and that is good news.
The liver biopsy indicated that Charlie does have Hepatic Microvascular Dysplasia (MVD) - you can read more about this condition here: http://www.acvs.org/AnimalOwners/HealthConditions/SmallAnimalTopics/HMD/. This particular condition is not correctable by surgery; however, it can be managed with low-protein food and sometimes medication, if needed. UPDATED BIO 10/29/2011: Hi Ho Everybody & Everypuppy - CHARLIE here! Have ya'll missed me? I've been having fun in my new foster home - there are other dogs here and I get along really well with them. I'm getting stronger and don't shake as much as I used to - and that's a good thing! Foster Mom said that Halloween is coming up - what's that? Anyway, she gave me a choice of two costumes - these silly things you are supposed to put on and look goofy. Well, the first one did that - ugh. She dressed me up as a bumble bee, but she couldn't put the antennea on me cuz she said it may hurt my little fragile head. Foster Mom finally came to her senses and put me in something that wasn't so....um......girly, you know, like a bumble bee - what was she thinking? Anyway, this one here is my favorite – leather jacket and kewl camo hat with stars on it, cuz she said that I’m a Star!...........you like it better, too, right? Now, I gotta say that I liked the hat - cuz then you couldn't see my bald head - but FM said that 'Bald is Bad', which means "Bald is Good'.......go figger?
I have been in my new foster home for a week now, and its pretty kewl here. I love to go outside in the puppy play yard and I walk all around and smell everything and water the flowers. FM said that I haven't bumped into one thing yet, so she thinks that I may be able to see shadows. Anudder thing - I'm gaining weight, which is a good thing. She thinks I must weigh about 4.5 lbs now - whoo hoooo! I eat like a little piggy. I will be seeing Dr. Hay - the surgeon that did my surgery - on Friday, and I will also be seeing Dr. Wolf - he's the doggie eye doctor - and he will examine my eyes again to see if I may be able to get anymore vision back. But if you like what you see, why don't you think about adopting me? You already know I'm cute, right? I walk with a little wobble now and then, but hey, I get to where I'm headed and that's all that's important. I'll come to you when you call me, too. I'm a very smart boy and I am paper-trained and also will go potty outside! Later, Charlie xoxoxo
