My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hiena or Cole as his foster mom calls him, is a gentle soul. He was called Hiena by the shelter because he has a very unusual bit of hair down his neck like a horses mane. He is a pound puppy and has known no other life until he came into foster care. He is a bright little pup however and is learning quickly and proving to be a friendly, loving and loyal dog. Hiena is just 7 months old and currently weighs just over 40 lbs.

Hiena was terrified of everything when he first came into our care. He didn't know what living in a home was having only ever known a cold cell at the shelter. In the short time he has been with us however, he is making great strides and because he is very trusting and eager to please, he is learning knew things and picking up on commands quickly.

Here is what his foster mom had to say:

Cole is a very loving, eager to please little guy. He loves play time with me, but he also plays very well by himself. He went from not knowing anything 4 days ago, to walking & running with a loose lead, responding to his name, coming when called, sitting and laying down (down requires a lure) and a few other handy commands such as come, sit, down, off, easy and wait.

Cole was like a new puppy when he first arrived and is still timid of new things and new situations but he is slowly learning to trust and overcome most of those fears. He is good with everyone once he sees they are not going to hurt him. He was frightened of most things the first couple of days, but he is starting to walk without even noticing cars passing. Busy streets are still too much for him to handle though. He is afraid of dogs we have met on our walks, but is showing some improvement day by day in allowing them to sniff him and he is starting to cautiously sniff others. When he is afraid he just looks to me for reassurance. Like any young puppy he just needs further socialization and to be desensitized to his environment. He is never shown any sign of aggression with anyone or anything. Cole has the mentality of a new pup when it comes to having encountered things. No doubt because he had been in a shelter his entire life. He is quickly catching on though and is becoming much more calm.

He is very respectful of the parrot in the home.

I am using a crate, both at night and during the day while at work. He doesn's fuss too much about being in the crate, and will even go in there with the door open for some peace and quiet from time to time. He loves to cuddle and play fetch. He has a moderate energy level. An hour walk will lead to a 2 hour nap :) He is very quiet in the home. He is nearly leash trained.

Cole is full of love and affection. He is willing to please and is often looking for direction on how to do what you would like him to do.

Cole would do best with a family that would continue his puppy training and give him the security and love to become a confident, capable companion. Whatever he gets, he gives back 10 times over. He is just a lovely pup that will make a wonderful pet.
