My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I got a call from this man about a month ago. He had found the most beautiful dog. He called back recently and the dog was HW positive. He found "Blockie" at his door about five weeks after the F4 tornado in Cleveland TN. He had saw him in his neighborhood for about 5 weeks, emaciated and discovered him living in his wood pile. The dog slowly crawled toward him one morning, whimpering, when he tried for the 100th time to lure him out with food. One entire leg was through his choke chain. Blockie, as he has named him, (due to the vet telling him the dog was a Block Head Pit Bull) allowed him to cut the chain. He took the dog in and he quickly bonded with his two dogs, both large breed and both dog aggressive. He noticed the dog left the kitchen when they started cooking. If the dog got on the couch, he would quickly move when their two dogs wanted his spot. He has been walking him 4 to 5 times daily, into stores and said he is frightened of things over his head. His vet has healed most of his tornado wounds and he has one more treatment left to be deemed heart worm free. He is a young boy.

Frank called me last week. His wife is in very poor health she also suffers with anxiety disorder. He had taken the dog to have him euthanized that morning but changed his mind when he vet arrived with the needle. That night he was struggling at around 3 am, as whether or not to put Blockie down or what even he should do with him. He was sitting on his couch and the dog came and put his head in Frank's lap. He would not break eye contact and was whining very low. Blockie lifted one foot and put it on Frank's leg. Frank told me this story:

When he was a young boy, he had taken a hard blow to the head. Shortly after that he started having trouble learning in school, his friends abandoned him and his parents thought he was a "stupid" child. He became totally withdrawn and lived a tortured life. When Frank got older it was discovered, (five years ago), that a bone from his accident had grown into his brain. He was able to get about 3 to 10 minutes of sleep per night and his memory was effected. It was to late for surgery.

He said he looked down at the dog and he started crying. He told me "this dog is just like me--he is misunderstood, no one gets TO KNOW HIM and no one wants to. He is shunned due to his breed, something he can't control and like me, he doesn't know it." Frank started taking Blockie everywhere and raved to me how proud he was to have this beautiful dog with him, his SHOW DOG, as when he went to buy a disposable camera and "send" me pictures, the dog posed with his back leg out and opposite front leg. I thought he was over zealous then I saw the pictures that arrived in my mailbox last week. His ears are also cropped and he knows ALL human words. He had tossed a treat and it landed behind Blockie's toy, Frank boasted to me "I told him it's behind your bear" and the dog immediately ran to the bear to find it. He was someone's "show dog" and he was not altered. This sweet man is on a limited retirement income and I am sending him what I can for HW and vetting, he can not keep Blockie, though I wish he could. He's asked me to place him. He had his neuter three weeks ago and he is now heart worm free!!

Franks parents are long gone now. He told me how much it hurts that they died thinking he was "stupid". He said he hopes that they can see now, that he wasn't stupid, he was just like a Pit Bull.

PLEASE contact PitHappensRescue@gmail.com to help find a home for Blockie. Chattanooga, TN.

"So far" he exclaimed proudly during our last phone call "I have educated at least 100 old folks on Pit Bulls when I walk him --over 10 miles a day".

Frank told me last night he credits this dog for living again and for the first time in 60 something years, holding his head UP in public.

He has been vetted and is approx. 2-3 yrs.
