My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We see a lot of good looking dachshunds but Bart may be the most stunning of them all. He is unbelievably gorgeous. He has very long ears, a very long snout and a very long tail. 21 lb Bart also has wild boar coloring which is rare in a smooth coat.

Bart was purchased by a retired couple with fond memories of the sweet doxie they had before they had children. Unfortunately, when they bought Bart, they were convinced to also get his sister, Lisa. These people did not know about litter mate syndrome and were unprepared for how much harder it was to raise two dogs. They also didn’t realize how much “attitude” dachshunds can have and how difficult it can be to train even one doxie. Soon Bart and his sister formed their own little pack and quickly began running the house. Knowing that they are never going to be the kind of owners stubborn doxies need, rescue was asked to rehome Bart and his sister.

The good news is that Bart is a sweet dog and without his sister for backup, he will greet people nicely. Because he has never been alone, we think Bart would do best with a well behaved canine sibling as well as an owner who knows how to be the alpha dog in the family. He would benefit from lots of exercise and getting out and about.

Bart is a very smart dog so he will keep his new owner on his/her toes. In his current home, Bart has figured out that the kitchen chairs are on wheels and that he can push them over to the kitchen counter and gain access to whatever is there. Needless to say, his current owners have learned to never leave ANYTHING on the counter.

4 year old Bart is crate trained and knows how to use a doggie door. He has AKC paperwork , is neutered and current on his vaccinations.

If you are interested in Bart, please fill out an adoption application and email Lindy at linla@comcast.net. The tax deductible donation for Bart is $250
