My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 12/19/2011: Harper is a sweet 2-1/2 year old, 6.5 lb little yorkie girl; she is being fostered in Davie,FL. Wow! Little Harper has been busy the past few months! She has had her vaccinations, she was altered, had a badly-needed dental cleaning (thankfully only losing one tooth!), cleared up her ear mites, and been to the groomer. Harper has a beautiful coat, but because it had been so neglected and became so matted, her coat had to be shaved down. She does not mind bathing and brushing, so with regular attention, she should once again look like our Miss Prancey Pants. In between all her health and beauty appointments, Harper has started to learn how to be a perfect Yorkie princess. Although she is 2.5 years old, her behavior is more like that of a puppy. Everything is new to her - grass, steps, her reflection, walking on a leash, being picked up and cuddled - and she is blossoming every day. Harper is looking for an experienced, adult home. She is a perfect 6.5 pounds, but she is skittish and easily frightened by loud noises and sudden movements. Because she still has puppy behaviors, she needs supervision most of the time.

Harper is not able to bark, either from a birth defect or a human act. She squeaks like a mouse, and she does not realize she is not as fierce as she thinks she is. Although this is adorable to see, it does mean that Harper cannot alert her people when she is in trouble. It also does not serve as any kind of warning to other animals, so it is completely up to her family to watch over her and keep her safe. She is still in a chewing phase, and she is curious about everything, so a puppy-proof environment is a must. She is able to jump up on furniture, but she cannot get back down, so she cannot be left unattended. Her greatest desire is to be close to her people, and she is extraordinarily sweet and loving. Harper is NOT house-trained, and this seems to be her area of slowest progress, especially when she is fearful or stressed. Her Foster Parents are working on this every day. Harper enjoys the company of her foster brothers and sisters, so a friendly, playful companion near her own size and age would be good for her. Sometimes she tolerates the cats, and sometimes she doesn't. She dearly loves stuffed squeaky toys and gathers them from around the house into a group on the kitchen rug. What a surprise the first time I saw that! If you feel your home can provide Harper with the security and love she so deserves, please fill out an application. Harper is waiting for you!

UPDATED BIO 10/04/2011: HARPER is a sweet, but terrified 6 lb 10 oz 2-2/1 year old yorkie girl who is being fostered in Davie, FL. Sweet and Beautiful Harper is a very frightened little girl – she had earmites and a mild luxating patella on the left side. Foster Mom says that Harper is petrified of being held, and in order to pick her up, they must corner her – when they hold her she shakes a lot right now. It’s obvious that she is not used to human touch, but both Foster Mom and Foster Dad are trying to hold her as much as she will let them to teach her that human arms are for giving gentle hugs, and hopefully soon she will associate with love and comfort as well. Harper appears to be unable to bark, but has a tiny little squeak, which sounds so distressing. She does not do well with any confinement at this time. She is not housetrained, but FM will be working on that with her. She will have her dental and spay next week, her teeth and gums are in very bad shape, and she will feel so much better once that is taken care of. Harper will need an adult home with lots of patience and understanding that she is learning to be a beloved companion for the first time in her life. Could that home be yours?

INITIAL BIO 10/02/2011: MEET Harper! Harper is a sweet 5 lb 2-1/2 year old little girl who is being fostered in Davie, FL.
Harper, Delia & Breanna were all surrendered by their breeder, along with little puppy Ryder. The females are all gorgeous little girlies who do not have a mean bone in their bodies. They are, however, very timid. With lots of love, comfort and shelter in her new foster home, Harper may have a long way to go before she becomes the confident, comfortable little girl she will become.
