My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandee, I'm a Yankee Doodle Boy" Don't you want to sing this song to Yankee Doodle? We can see this little man celebrating the 4th of July with his forever family! Yankee's former owner passed away and sadly his extended family did not want him. Luckily, he was pulled out of a kill shelter just in time and we have him now.

Yankee Doodle is a purebred Boston terrier that is about 10 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm negative and microchipped. Yankee is in good health except he has some weakness evidenced by trembling in his legs after he stands still for a minute or two. This is caused by arthritis in his lower back. The vet says it is the kind that causes numbness instead of pain. He recommends exercise which Yankee seems to love. He likes to go for walks and do short sprints after the ball. He has no pee accidents in the house, but he cannot tell when he has to poop (on average 2-3 times a 24-hour period). He cannot walk with a diaper on, but we have been taping a ziploc bag on his behind. It's comical to watch, but it works great!

Yankee is a laid-back boy-- happy to lay on the floor near you. He likes to be petted and have his ears scratched. He doesn't particularly like to be held, though. He rides well in the car. He gets along with other dogs, but wants to jump right in when there is an altercation. He would be very happy as an "only child". Yankee is leash-trained, crate-trained and always comes when you call him.

If you would like to add some more fireworks to your 4th of July, we suggest adding some Yankee Doodle to your home! Please call his foster Mama Susie 803-279-8069. If you would like to adopt Yankee, visit bostonrescueofsc.org and fill out the online application. His adoption fee is $175.00.
