Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Scruffy is a little wire haired terrier who would lick an intruder to death before getting mean! This little love bug is just over a year old and weighs about 8 lbs. Scruffy's owners surrendered him to animal control ... possibly because he was heartworm positive. So sad since heartworm preventative is so cheap and so easy to give. It doesn't have to be a death sentence though. There are two ways of treating it. The first method is by injecting immiticide in them but this is basically arsnic and the "cure" could kill them. The other way is by using a monthly heartworm preventative that contains Ivermectin. Ivermectin kills the baby worms and the adults die off on their own. This method can take up to 2 yrs to completely rid the body of the worms but it is much safer for the dog. Since they need monthly preventative anyway, it's a no brainer. There's no reason to believe Scruffy won't live just as long as any other dog now that he's being cared for. Scruffy is a sweetheart who loves everybody .... two and four legged! He is housetrained and sleeps quietly at our feet at night. Please give this baby a chance at a happy, healthy life!
