My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Marly is a sweet, gentle dog. She loves getting cuddles and kisses, but isn't demanding about getting attention. Marly took a couple of days to really warm up to her foster parents, but now comes looking to us for hugs. She is a young girl, approximately 1 - 2 years old and is a mid-sized dog weighing just 44 lbs.

Here is what Marly's foster family had to say about her:

Marly is a very sociable dog. She will try to approach some people to get them to pat her. She doesn't appear to be afraid of people regardless of age or gender. I haven't seen her act aggressively toward anyone.

Marly is great with her foster brother. She does like to play with him, and will initiate play but is not demanding or hyper. She is friendly with dogs that she meets on her walks as long as they are friendly with her.

We have not used a crate with Marly. I don't think she needs it. In the home she is usually relaxed, and mostly lies on her blanket. She hasn't grabbed or chewed anything that she shouldn't. At night we bring her blanket to our room and she stays on it all night.

Marly hasn't displayed any separation anxiety. She doesn't feel the need to follow us from room-to-room. She is quite content to lie on her blanket.

Noise is not an issue with Marly. Traffic doesn't bother her.

Marly LOVES fetch. Her favourite toy is a giant red tennis ball (now demolished). She is a little possessive of her ball, but isn't aggressive about it. Ruud can grab the ball-as long as a game of fetch isn't in progress. Marly's second favourite thing to do is sleep. She occasionally snores.

Marly's energy level is moderate to low. She would do fine in a home with a another dog as long as the other dog isn't high energy. Marly was not in good shape when she first came into our home and was tired and weak. Her strength and stamina are growing; play-time lasts a little linger and more frequently and she really seems to be coming into her own now.

Marly was a really quiet dog when she first arrived in her foster home. She is starting to find her voice and will bark at people/cats walking past the house.

Marly is not an excessive shedder; but would benefit from regular brushing.

Marly doesn't eat a lot. She eats maybe a cup of food a day (sometimes more, sometimes less) and leaves the rest in her bowl. She doesn't seem to have food possessive issues. If she grabs something on her walk, we can take it from her without problems.

Her coat is healthy and really soft.

When she plays her "puppiness" is evident. In some ways she seems very mature-how quiet and calm she is in our home.

Marly knows a couple of commands-sit, off, wait. She is more easily trained with toys (red tennis ball), than with food. She will come when called and knows her name.

Marly has had no accidents in the house. She won't indicate in any way that she needs to go; rather waits until we send her to the yard or for her walks.

Marly is fine in the car. She will sit or lie down.

Marly walks nicely on leash. She will walk ahead, but doesn't often pull. Even when she does pull she is an easy dog to handle.

Marly has not exhibited any destructive behaviors. She has made no escape attempts.

Watching Marly sleep, and the amount of time she spends sleeping makes us feel sad and a little protective of her-protect her from our big, goofy, bruiser dog (although she has displayed she is quite capable if looking after herself). Maybe its just my imagination, but she seems to have lived a life beyond her years. Marly is content to have some play time, walks, and a lot of rest. Although she appears to be gaining strength, I don't think she will be a high energy dog.

Final note-Anthony and I just love her. She is such a great dog.
