Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dasher came to us via owner surrender. His quality of life had declined dramatically due to changes in his owners' lives. Selling their home, losing a job, moving into a rental house, and no longer being able to take him to the office during the day all wound up leading to Dasher spending most of the day at home alone in his crate. He simply deserves better than that.
Dasher is a sweet, funny little guy. In a lot of ways, he's like having a little old man in the house -- he snores, he limps when he overdoes it, he gets vocal if his dinner's late, he coughs whenever he gets a big drink, and he loves routine. When you have something he wants, he "talks" to you and sounds just like a dolphin. He loves to be up high, and claims a spot up on the back of the couch whenever he can. He's very playful in the morning. He loves hugs, but isn't crazy about being picked up (he doesn't fight it -- it just seems awkward for him). He loves to play with unusual toys like Frisbees and footballs. He loves to chase his toys, but is rather sporadic on whether or not he will return them to you. Oh, and he is crazy about the beach!
Dasher is generally good with kids who are old enough to follow basic rules around dogs. One of the kids in his previous home is autistic, and he has always been completely patient and tolerant of his unpredictable behavior. He becomes very protective whenever the doorbell rings, and will sound the alarm to make sure you know that someone is there. We think he'd be fine as an only dog or in a house with a little girl dog, but around another male,Dasher tends to express his territoriality by marking.
Dasher has some skin issues due to allergies which stay completely controlled with a daily pill. He takes his medicine eagerly when it is buried in a little peanut butter. The medicine costs about $40-$50 per month.
He is completely up to date on his shots. He has a couple of fatty deposits under his tummy, but they have been examined and are not threatening in any way. Sometimes he seems to have some pain in his back left hip, possibly arthritis, but it doesn't hold him back at all. It just makes him move a little slower on that last trip outside at night.
If you have a soft spot in your heart for the little old guys, and you are interested in Dasher, please fill out an adoption application at www.scdr.org and email Lindy at linla@comcast.net.
His adoption fee is a modest donation to rescue
