My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cash - Adopted 2/13/12

It was truly fate that brought Cash to our rescue when our volunteer, Lisa, was picking up another dog at a shelter. She overhead an elderly man tearfully speaking with a shelter worker about the dog he needed to relinquish. There was something in the man’s voice -- something about the grief-stricken way he spoke about having to give up what he considered to be a wonderful dog – that made Lisa speak out and ask about the dog. He told her that Cash has been his daughter’s dog. She adopted him as a puppy from an acquaintance whose Golden Retriever had a litter of mixed pups. When his daughter moved out of his home, she left Cash behind. Due to his financial and physical inability to care for this young dog, he pleaded and pleaded with her to come and get her dog, but she never did. Sorrowfully, he found no other options except to bring the dog to the shelter. He took Lisa out to his car to meet Cash and Lisa fell in love!

To look at this fellow with his coat shining like the blackest coal, you would not guess that his mamma was a pure bred Golden Retriever. But when we examined Cash with our “Gold-O-Meter,” sure enough, he has a heart of GOLD! Not only is Cash strikingly handsome, but he is filled with personality to boot! He has an expression that just captures you and causes you to smile from ear to ear. He has a short and compact body that glistens with jet black fur. His adorable paws are adorned with white booties, while his nose has just a tiny splash of white and he has a contrasting white blaze on his chest.

Nope, you’d never guess Cash’s mamma was a Golden. And that is part of the fun of having a mixed breed – trying to figure out just what your dog is mixed with! It is our best guess is that Cash’s daddy was possibly a Flat-Coated Retriever. Whatever daddy was, the union created one wonderful pup! Cash is great with children and loves to ride in the car. If you have wanted a Black Golden Retriever who is a loyal and devoted companion, look no further because Cash has found you and is ready to spend the rest of his life at your side!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
