This is one of a group of injured dogs who came into a small No. California shelter just before the holidays. She was named Mistletoe because she loves to give kisses to people and the other dogs she gets to greet only through the fences right now. This sweet-faced little girl had a compound fracture on her hind leg and an infection as a result. We are thrilled that the infection is under control and she will be able to go off antibiotics this week.
Because of the site and severity of the break, it could not be pinned. Mistletoe was so sweet and charming that the shelter staff and local rescuers could not resist giving her every chance of recovery possible. She has been wearing a splint for the last month. She will get a follow-up x-ray in mid-January and hopefully her splint can come off at the beginning of February.
