My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sissy is a sweet girl with a loving and friendly temperament. She was found as a young pup with her brother (Alex who was adopted last month) and her sister (Muffins who will soon be posted for adoption as well) and has pretty much grown up in the shelter. She is approximately 7 - 8 months old with a beautiful coat and a winning personality. She is currently just over 30 lbs.

Sissy is still a puppy in many ways but she listens well and is eager to please. She is great with other dogs, cats and people of all ages.

Here is what her foster mom had to say about Sissy:

Sissy is so sweet. She loves to be close to you and cuddle. I love kissing her nose and she likes to return the kisses. She is a great dog! Very versatile. I think she could fit in anywhere. She is very pretty and I have received many compliments on her. She is a nice size and I can't see her getting much bigger. She is all black but has white toes with pink pads. She is just all around beautiful and I will be envious of her forever family for having such a loving girl!

Sissy is sociable and friendly with everyone. She is good with adults and kids alike. She spends a lot of time with my 10 and 6 year old children. The only time I have seen Sissy growl and bark is when she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror! It was quite comical (what a tough dog)! She is slightly shy when she first meets new people but she is quick to make friends with them.

Sissy is friendly towards all dogs and gets along exceptionally well with my own 2 dogs. She likes to cuddle with my female. She first tried to chase my cats but the novelty has warn off and she no longer bothers with them.

Sissy is crated during the night and when we are out. She is not thrilled to be in there but will settle down in just a few minutes. Having never been in a home Sissy was spooked by the TV at first but now is fine with it. I have not noticed any other fears. She seems to be a little calmer than other Retriever puppies. She has a beautiful black shiny coat. She has a healthy appetite and shows no food aggression what so ever.

Sissy has excellent house manners. She does not beg or sit near the table when we are eating. She has not bolted out the door, just curious as to who is there. She has wandered out when someone has come in and has come back immediately when called. She doesn't seem to know many commands but I am surprised at how well she responds. She will be a quick learner. I only have to call her once and she comes. She will drop an object that she shouldn't have as soon as I approach her. I am not convinced that she knows the words "drop it" etc, but I think she understands what is expected of her. She is well on her way to be house trained. She has not messed in her crate at all.

She is okay on the leash once we get going but she will fight it if I pull on her to go. Instead of pulling on the leash, I call her to me and then we can go. She is slightly nervous of the collar tightening around her neck and seems to be better with the flat collar instead of a martingale type.

I think she would fit in fine with any home environment as long as they could provide her with daily exercise and mental stimulation. She is experiencing so much for the first time and is taking it all in great strides.
