My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Andy is a gorgeous, red merle Aussie. He is neutered, vaccinated and being maintained on heartworm medication. He is about 1 year old and weighs around 45 pounds. Andy needs to continue to put on weight and will probably settle out between 50 and 55 pounds. He will be a big boy.

Andy came to rescue from a rural animal control facility in North GA. He is a sweet and loving dog who has had no training in his young life. This boy has beautiful, pleading golden eyes that will force you to love him. He has the most unusual but beautiful merled coat that we have ever seen and a very gorgeous full tail. His personality is so sweet that you just want to take him into your arms and hug him. He will easily grab your heart. He is a very submissive boy though so he has to be introduced to new people very slowly. Once he knows you though, he is your best buddy for life.

He loves to play with anything you pick up from soft squeaky toys, to ropes, balls or just a stick. His energy is boundless! Andy gets at least two hours a day of run and play time and it is still hard to get him to settle. He has a lot of puppy energy to burn. He gets along great with any dog he comes into contact with and quickly engages in play. He will make someone a great companion and will thrive with one-on-one interaction. He would make a great running partner and may even do well at agility when he gets a little older. He is very fast! He was tried on the agility equipment and ran through the tunnel, A-frame and jumps very happily the very first time tried.

Andy is a little pushy at the dinner table but never aggressive. He simply acts like a dog that has not always known when his next meal was coming. His foster family has been working very hard to get his anxiety level with food down and he has improved considerably. He came into rescue weighing only 38 pounds so it is understandable that he would be concerned about food.

Andy has come so far from the wild boy ARPH first took into the foster program. He is now completely housetrained, leash trained, and has become a very well mannered dog in the house…. most of the time. He can get a little over-the-top when he wants to play with the other dogs in the house and has to be corrected. He also has a very high pitched bark that he uses when he wants your attention that needs correction. He has tackled the doggie door and will reliably sit when asked. We are working on down and stay but they are almost but not completely reliable yet. Although he sleeps well in a crate, he currently sleeps solidly through the night outside a crate in the doggie room. He loves to ride in a car and settles right down as soon as you start moving. He has been tested with cats and did fine and has done very well in his contact with small children . He does have the Aussie habit of chasing anyone that runs away from him and nipping. This will need to be corrected. His foster home will be working on that.

Andy is fostered in Havana (above Tallahassee).
