Shelby is a 6 month old Labrador Retriever/German Shepard mix female who weighs around 41 pounds. Poor Shelby had a rough start to life, she was brought to the shelter at 5 months old with 3 littermates who were living in a dog run and with little interaction with humans or other dogs. Her littermates have all found homes; she was bit scared without one of them to calm her. She is a timid girl and a bit skittish but very sweet and is not aggressive in any way. Shelby is such a lucky girl as she spent some time at Dog Pawz in Leawood socializing with alot of dogs and becoming more comfortable with humans. She is leashed trained and is enjoying going on jogs/runs with her foster mom. She would make a great walking or jogging partner. At this time we think she would do best in a home without young children as she scares easily. Shelby would do great in a home as an only dog or with other dogs. Her favorite toys are tennis balls, nylabones and rope toys. She does great at the dog park playing with other dogs but does not go too far from her foster mom. Shelby is entertained with the television especially when she hears animals. She is crate trained and housetrained. We are working on "no" and are trying to master "sit". She is doing fantastic on learning to come inside, go down to the basement and up hardwood floor stairs by following the lead of her canine siblings. She is a super smart dog and learns very quickly. Shelby is not a super active dog considering her age as a two mile walk/jog or less is all she needs daily. She finds comfort in her kennel and loves to lay in it when she is inside.
