My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Written by volunteer Gwen. I named Whitman and his litter mates when they were taken in by CARE, Inc. as newborns in 2012 after a realtor found them at an abandoned house, their mama dead on the road. Being a writer myself, I named the entire litter for authors. I recently fostered his brother Chaucer and after he was adopted, I brought Whitman home to foster. By fostering them, we get to learn so much more about them as they settle into a home environment and can help match them up with just the right family. Whitman is very shy right now in the noise of a home. He is working at becoming accustomed to televisions, flushing toilets, washing machines and bright lights at night. All of these things were absent in his outdoor kennel. We have found he is meticulously housebroken, even though he was never formally trained. He is fine with cats and even chickens. He absolutely adores other dogs and can get along with most any dog personality that comes his way. He actually looks to my dogs for cues as to whether he should be alarmed at some new sound or sight. He is beginning to understand the benefits of a home of his own and is eager to please. We are finding him a sweet, sweet dog full of goodwill, but for now he would do best in a very quiet situation, probably with a family accustomed to building up confidence in shy dogs.
