Meet Barley -- a very smart and handsome young adult male long coat chihuahua with the most beautiful green eyes and sweet disposition!

Barley is a busy, curious dog and sometimes it seems like he has a spring in his tail! He loves to zoom around, jump up on things and play with his foster siblings. From the moment he is let out of his kennel until he is put back in, it seems like he doesn’t stop moving, playing or exploring -- though as he has matured, he does spend more time “chilling out.” He loves to chew on his collection of flexible Nylabones, play fetch with his squeaky toys (he also loves to de-stuff them), steal your socks and sometimes run off with a shoe!

Barley is at his best in a calm, stable environment with a daily routine. Because of his energy level, it is very important for Barley to get plenty of exercise – one to two walks a day-- especially if he will be kenneled during the day like he is now. He does very well on a leash and harness, really enjoys his walks and seems okay with all the dogs and people he meets in the neighborhood, though he can be a bit shy, standoffish and scoot away if you reach for him and he doesn’t know or trust you or you move too fast. If he’s comfortable with you, Barley loves to get in your lap to be loved on, watch TV (he likes to bark and growl at all the animals he sees on the screen) or take a nap. For the most part, Barley does not like to be picked up and held (he will try to jump out of your arms, especially if he doesn’t know or trust you). Barley loves to work with you one on one (he’s very treat motivated), and has completed basic obedience training and a “fungility” class (agility for fun).

Barley is kenneled in a large wire kennel that gives him plenty of room to move around and sleep in his blankets while his foster mom is at work and overnight. It is best that he is kenneled when no one is home or he will be unattended to keep him safe and out of mischief. He doesn’t mind being kenneled alone, though he does enjoy having a buddy in there with him. Barley prefers sleeping overnight in his kennel. He goes right into his kennel without any problems (though he does wait to see that you have a treat for him), doesn’t whine or bark during the day or make a peep during the night and will wait patiently for you to let him out in the morning. Barley is quiet in the house and outside, but will bark with his foster brothers and sister if they hear something or he’s trying to get one of them to play with him.

Barley is the perfect little canine companion – smart, sweet, sometimes naughty but always lovable! He's looking for a calm, stable, nonsmoking forever home with loving, patient, experienced dog owners that have the time, desire and resources to commit to him for the rest of his long life. It is very preferable that Barley have another small dog to play with and keep him company. Due to his small size, Barley will not be adopted to anyone with children under 12 years old or dogs over 11 pounds.

Barley is neutered, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative and on heartworm prevention. He is ready to join a loving family - could you be his perfect home?
