My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sam who is a handsome 3-year-old 70-pound black lab mix, with a friendly, happy attitude. He is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on shots, micro chipped and housetrained. What more could you ask for, you say? Well, how about a list of commands he knows, like the basics, sit, stay, lay down. Now throw in ‘Do you want to go out’ he goes to the front door, ‘Out Back’ he goes to the back door, ‘Who’s that’ he will bark if you have unwanted visitors, ‘Load up’ to get in the car, ‘You want to eat?’ he will go to his food dish. And as the commercials say.....but wait! There’s more! He passed a full temperament test, including meeting the cat, with flying colors. He greets strangers calmly when on walks and is gentle and playful with kids in the neighborhood, Sam takes treats gently and allows you to take it away and sits calmly waiting for you to give it back. He does bark at strangers, like the delivery guy or mailman, but once he knows they are okay with you, he’s okay too. Sam walks nicely on leash, has a medium energy level and will tell you when he needs to go out by standing at the door. Sam also has discovered he likes to swim! He gets so excited at the lake, jumping for joy when you have a stick to throw for him to splash after. To see a video please click here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1fObnJ9Q3k ) Sam's only issues have been that he doesn't like nail trims and will chase bicycles.

Sam does have an old injury to his left hind leg. What was originally thought to be a torn ligament, was determined to be an old break to the head of his left hind femur. Because it wasn't repaired or did not heal properly, his hind leg is a tad bit shorter than the other. X-rays were taken and a thorough exam done on his leg. The vet said, due to the age of the break, it would be more harmful to try to repair it now. The vet recommended giving Glucosamine daily and encouraging regular exercise. Sam enjoys playing and running and his injury does not slow him down a bit.
