Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Josey is a beautiful, sable, nine-month old, female GSD who weighs 56 lbs. She came to us as an owner-surrender dog. Unfortunately, the owner was unable to keep Josey as he did not have the time that a young GSD needs. She has only had one owner since she was 11 weeks old, and is now in one of our foster homes.
When she arrived in her foster home, she was in her first heat, pulled like a tank, jumped on people, jumped on counters, jumped on the resident dogs, grabbed food, toys, tissues, clothing, shoes, anything she could get her mouth on from anyone or anything. She couldn’t settle down for an instant. Once crated, she would slam her body up against the crate and whine like a banshee (like a child having a temper tantrum), and she was crated in her previous home. She would eliminate in her crate during the day while everyone was away at work. She was afraid to ride in the car, meet new people and dogs. She would hackle up and give a low growl, or try and run.
Now, she sounds like a nightmare, but this is what happens when a dog is not socialized or trained. Since then, she has been learning house manners and many other commands/words.

She has been learning to ride in the car, socialize with strange people and dogs. Once she is introduced properly to new people she is their best friend. She loves to play fetch with a tennis ball, enjoys belly rubs, chewing on Nylabones, and would like to cuddle with a new owner. She has no problem with you touching her ears, paws, teeth or eyes. She has had no accidents in her crate since the first week in the foster home, and now automatically walks into the crate at bedtime or when brought to the crate. In her foster home, she has much confidence with the three resident male dogs (two Rottweilers and one GSD) and her foster parents. She has settled down and learned a lot in the eight weeks she has been in the home. She enjoys going places, hanging out and playing with her foster brothers, and taking long walks. She is still a puppy and needs to be watched as she can get into things---very curious and active.
She is now attending obedience classes to strengthen her commands, socialization and confidence.
Josey is a work in progress. She needs someone with patience, good leadership skills and consistency on following up with her on training and exercise so that she can be the fantastic GSD we know her to be.
Her rides in the car have changed---she seems to have released her claws being out when riding and has started to go close to the partially opened window to sniff out the passing air.
Today we went to dog training and she had her first playtime with three strange dogs (one at a time) and was in the circle with six dogs that were all engaging in play! She tried to climb on Mike’s lap too! However, she still needs proper introductions with dogs and people…..this has not changed. She is just getting more and more comfortable and confident in her surroundings and with her handler.
