My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 5/26/12!!!

Lovable Lizzie is a beautiful Golden Retriever/Red-fox Lab mix. Lizzie was set to be taken in by a Lab rescue group but they declined taking her when they saw her white feet. Imagine being passed over because one is slightly different… We happen to think Lizzie’s socks are adorable and give her a very dainty look. This lovely lady is about 4 years old and, having just had her last litter of puppies, is now retired as a breeder dog.

Lizzie is living in a loving foster home where we are learning more about her. Lizzie is getting along wonderfully with her foster mom’s Cocker Spaniels and respects their pecking order. She waits her turn, which is last, to have her supper or get a cookie. She is fine in the car, but does best on an empty stomach. Lady Lizzie walks easily on a leash along with her foster mom’s dogs and she doesn’t bark at passers-by as her foster’s dogs do. Lizzie is completely house-broken and has very nice house manners. She sleeps in her assigned bed and stays there all night. Lizzie and her foster mom, Wendy, have had a few discussions about the sofa and agreed that she could sleep on the loveseat, but the sofa is off limits. Lizzie started out jumping up on Wendy as a greeting and to get her to throw the ball. After some trial and error, a spray bottle cured that. Now, her foster mom just has to show it to her to remind her.

Lizzie almost always has some toy or ball in her mouth. She is a relentless tennis ball fetcher and will fetch as long as Wendy is willing to chuck it. Under supervision, Lizzie enjoys being outside watching the world go by. As you can tell by her pictures, she looks much more like a Lab than a Golden, but she certainly does have a Golden personality. She is laid-back, charming and so willing to please. Lizzie is under heartworm treatment and will be ready to head to her forever home in mid-May.

Lizzie is an easy keeper. She likes to play, run, and fetch a ball, but when play-time is over, she settles down nicely. Whoever adopts Lizzie is going to get a great dog who is devoted to her family and eager to please. She is very gentle and has a great temperament. Lizzie will adjust easily to a new family and if you show her love, she will give you ten times the love in return. Lizzie really doesn't ask for much –all she wants is to be a member of your "family pack.”

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
