My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Love a typical, filled to the gills with potential young Border Collie? Well here he is! Meet Kip! This darling, classic black and white rough coated lad is quite a catch. Sweet, lively, athletic, bright, and playful, Kip is overflowing with potential and personality. Surrendered to WBCR by his owners who were being deployed to the Middle East, Kip is a great little guy with a bright future, and is ready for a family of his own to share adventures with for years to come.

Like many BCs, Kip really attaches to his people, and with those familiar to him, he is a very friendly and affectionate kiddo who just likes to be near his humans. When it's time to just hang out with his people, he always tries to be touching them, usually laying on their feet. (Watch out for your shoe laces, however - this goofball loves to untie them! - Yet he doesn't chew on them - he just unties them.) Although he's not so sure about new people, and takes some time to warm up to strangers, Kip is definitely a social butterfly with members of his own species, and LOVES to play with other dogs, any age and any size. He gets along really well with his canine foster siblings, young and older alike. Kip also loves to be outdoors, snowshoeing, hiking, and running - he will make a fabulous companion for all those outdoor adventures! Kip is very athletic in nature and would make a great dog sport prospect as well. Kip has not shown any tendencies or instincts for herding, although Kip is learning to play with toys and he found out it is quite fun to frolic a little with a toy in his mouth. He lives with cats in his foster home and for the most part does very well with them although he cannot resist a good chase every once in a while. A dog savvy cat would be best.” Kip is also LOVES to ride in the car and going to new places. He will actually knock at the front door if he wants to go for a walk and he will knock at the garage door when he wants to go for a ride. He also is learning to ride a bike.... Or at least jog next to one and seems to really like it. He's a moderately high energy boy, and although he certainly could keep up with a home that is very active, he has a great off-switch and doesn't need a full marathon every day to be happy (although he will need a good chunk of physical exercise daily).

This cutie-pie is no slouch in the manners department, either. He's housebroken and crate trained (loves his crate) and knows some basic commands. Kip is very food motivated and smart, so he has taken to training very quickly. He still needs work in the walking on leash department and he loves being around his people and the other dogs in the house, so tends to stick close. For a young dog, surprisingly, he has never chewed up anything he wasn't supposed to, but he does like to have an arsenal of hard bones around to chew on. As Kip is still a youngster and hadn't previously had much training or education, he'll need adopters who will continue with his basic manners training and who will establish rules and boundaries for him to live by. He will also need adopters willing to help him feel more comfortable with strangers. Like many BCs, Kip is not exactly a social butterfly with new people, and things approaching can alarm him as well, and he is not quite sure how to respond to these things. So it comes as no surprise that Kip can react with alarm when he meets new people either in the home or when he sees people on hiking trails. His foster parents have been working with him on this, teaching him that new people mean good things, and it has been working very well. Since Kip is very food motivated, he warms up very quickly when strangers can deliver him a few tasty morsels!

Because he is a bit reactive, however, Kip probably should be in a home with older or no children.

All in all, Kip is a great young fellow who, in the right hands, is sure to grow into a lovely canine companion. If you are looking for a fun, energetic, playful, and sweet dog that has a few rough edges that need to be honed, then Kip could be the dog for you!
