My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Moss is always up for fun. He loves to run and loves his toys! He has sad Hound eyes that just make him irresistible. We think Moss would make a great match for a person/ family without children or with older children (12yrs +).

Moss was born on February 24th to a Shepherd/ Hound mix mom who was scheduled to be put to sleep that morning and he and his siblings were born that night. They took two cars and two planes to get here and have been busy getting to know how to be great dogs since then.

Yes, I’m adorable, but I want a family that can see past all of my cute and will work hard to learn about who I am and how to help me be a great dog. (For example, although it is cute when I jump up on you now, it won't be so cute in just a few short months, so I need people in my life to ask me to 'sit' before saying 'hi.') I hope that my family will respect me and attend to my needs as a puppy, through my adolescence, and all the way into my golden years. I’m going to need great socialization opportunities all throughout the week and I would like to learn good manners so that I can make you proud every day. As part of my adoption, you will need to take me to a puppy class that has curriculum covering bite inhibition, body handling, socialization, off-leash playtime with friends my age, good house manners, and basic obedience training.

I have been very lucky to be raised by a dog trainer who has worked very hard to set me up for success. So far I have:

  •  been exposed to LOTS of people and kids, foster family dogs, cats, noises, footings, toys, household activities, being bathed, having my nails trimmed, being touched all over, and having my picture taken.

  •  learned to use a the yard to potty and my crate to sleep in-- I am 90% potty-trained.

  •  discovered how tasty and satisfying stuffed Kongs, bully sticks, marrow bones and nylabones are for chewing, but I still need help learning not to chew shoes, furniture, rugs, wires, and other inappropriate things.

  •  taken several car rides to be poked, prodded, and fawned over by lots of strange people.

  • gone to a parade, doggy daycare, puppy playgroups and overnights at strangers houses.

I’ve had a great start, but I still need lots more time with strangers, children, other puppies, new places and things to walk on, learning to solve problems, and learning how to be a great dog.
