VALENTINO's Story...
A black cloud came over this beautiful black Briard when "Valentino's" beloved guardian never came back from the hospital. That was two years ago. Briards are very emotional, like elephants, capable of crying, when their guardian passes away, so we can only imagine how difficult it was for "Valentino" to experience his great loss. He lived happily for three years with two other large breed rescue dogs, across the street from Rice University, and loved to go on walks around the campus and, then, for a dip in his swimming pool. True Blue Friends looked after all three dogs for several months and we were so happy to find a family in the Memorial area with a pool and a large yard on the bayou, willing to foster him, long term but, for some reason, he recently growled at the grandchildren and lost his foster privileges. "Valentino" is back in our backyard and has not showed any signs of aggressive behavior. We have a pond, not a pool, and he's in and out of it, all day. He is a joy to be around and gets along with all the other dogs, but too excitable around cats, so we keep them apart. Brairds are a very loyal breed and are called "a heart of gold wrapped in fur." Once they have bonded to their family members, they become very protective, so new introductions require showing them the new intrusion is friendly and welcome. Valentino's like a big, black bear, with a thick gorgeous, long-haired coat, in the winter months, but requires grooming in the warmer months. He's about 4-5 years old, in excellent health, and eager to find a family to love. "If you have pool, he will travel." Come and meet "Valentino" at this Tuesday's Rice University market. Why Adoption is a Great Option

VALENTINO, a Houston Briard dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Briard for sale in Houston, or seeking a Briard dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Briard breeders who help with Briard rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
