My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dalton bonds very quickly and is an affectionate and loving dog. He likes to be wherever you are, doing whatever you are doing. He would make a great single’s companion or a family pet with older children or adults. He is an intelligent young pup that is learning to be a capable companion. He still has a lot of puppy energy but is house trained and well behaved in the home. He is just under a year old and weighs 30 lbs.

Dalton is still very much a puppy and will need someone that will continue to work on his obedience training and socialization. He needs a good daily walk and would do well with a backyard to play in. Another friendly canine in the home would be good or older children that would enjoy tossing a ball around in the yard. I have been working with Dalton and he is an intelligent boy that has learned the commands sit, heel, no bark, come and off. He is fully house trained and knows to do his business outside. I currently crate him when I am out of the house and he would need to be confined until he can be fully trusted in the home. He does cry for a bit when I first put him in the crate but he settles pretty quickly. At night he is not crated and is left to roam the house with my dog Kayla. I have been using a training collar on our walks and he is coming along very nicely. We are currently working on distractions such as squirrels which he would love to chase. Although he is great with dogs one on one, he finds the dog park a little too overwhelming still. He will definitely need someone that would be willing to continue his training with consistency and positive reinforcement and to continue working on his socialization skills.

Although he enjoys playing with my dog Kayla, he is really more interested in being with his person (me) and is very in tune to everything I am doing. He may be sleeping across the room from me but when I make a move to get up, his little head pops up, and before you know it he’s at my feet. Dalton is fairly independent however he craves attention and affection and is extremely cuddly. He loves his belly scratched (he’ll stretch out as far as he can for you to do this), or a good behind-the-ear scratch, while gazing at you with his big beautiful brown eyes the whole time! He will curl right up in your lap or be very happy to lay right next to you. When I am sitting down at my computer, or watching TV, all of a sudden this cute little head will appear right on my thigh and he’s coming to say hi and ask for a head rub. He is really sweet and a great companion. He does seem to be a bit timid with certain men but generally with an introduction he is fine.

Dalton craves acceptance and is always looking for your approval and affection. He benefits from discipline and would benefit from further obedience training. He would make a wonderful addition to a home where there is plenty of love to give him. He does have the energy required for regular walking or long runs at a park, but at home he is a cuddler that just wants your approval and love. He attaches very quickly. My recommendation is that Dalton would fit best in a home where he is the only dog. He does require a exercise and discipline. He is very happy to have a playmate but does seem to feel the stress of not quite belonging, or having to prove himself to the first dog. I think he was probably bounced around a bit in his past and in a single dog home, I think he would always be eager to please and an absolute delight.

If you feel that you would be able to offer this boy a loving forever home, please visit our website at http://uglymutts.com and submit an application for consideration.
