Carter's Story...
Hello. My name is Carter. I am a 5 year old neutered Rat Terrier who was surrendered by my owners. I make up with strangers very slowly so you can imagine what it's like here where everyone is a stranger, and there are more of them coming in every day. I am very frightened here. If you sit on the floor by my crate, I will eventually come to you once I know you aren't going to hurt me. As long as you don't reach for me suddenly or scare me, I am a great little guy on walks. In my crate, my tail is between my legs in fear, but on walks, I hold it high and really enjoy myself. I do need to work on housetraining, but if you have a patient and loving household (no small children, please) I would really like another chance! Please? **Carter has come far in a short time. He now greets visitors at the door of his kennel, and he LOVES to go for walks. He also loves belly rubs. He would be a wonderful companion for an older couple or a family with no children. Sudden movements still startle him.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Carter, a Frankfort Rat Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Rat Terrier for sale in Frankfort, or seeking a Rat Terrier dog from a breeder in Frankfort.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Frankfort already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Frankfort breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Rat Terrier breeders who help with Rat Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Frankfort paves the way for another one to be saved.
