Faux Pas's Info...

I am already spayed, up to date with shots, not good with dogs, and not good with cats.

Faux Pas's Story...
Faux Pas, which is French for “social mistake,” we think is probably a play on words for “Four Paws.” This plus-size gal was picked up stray by a Richmond Animal Care and Control officer, but no one came looking for her, even though she has obviously been a pampered house cat for a long time.

True, she’s overweight, but with some weight control food and regular playtime, she should trim down steadily over the course of a year. She’s extremely smart, tidy, quiet and adores looking out of the window, but she definitely has a shy side while she considers her situation and grows to accept the new routine of her surroundings. While at the shelter about 3 weeks, she gained confidence and came forward to greet visitors, and she loved to lounge about royally and watch people come and go. We think she’d do well with a “safe place” from the beginning, as simple as her carrier or as fancy as you’d like to get – we also like the cute Velcro dog houses for $10 at CVS – they come in the perfect pink for this sweet girl! We have one we’d be glad to give you, still in the box!

About Cat Rescue, Inc., Petersburg SATURDAYS @ COLONIAL HEIGHTS PETSMART, NOON-7

About Our Rescue Group...

Cat Rescue, Inc., saves cats slated for euthanasia at overloaded shelters. No cat is adopted out prior to spay or neuter. The home organization is based in Chesapeake, managing the pet center in the Petsmart at Greenbrier Mall, Chesapeake. Adoptions number approximately 500 per year. We are a 501(c)(3)nonprofit, ALL VOLUNTEER, home foster based, no-kill organization. All donations and contracts paid are submitted to the director of Cat Rescue, Inc., in Chesapeake, Va., and are applied to food and medical needs of cats and kittens under the organization's care. The organization is committed to accepting any cat adopted from us if the owner for any reason has to give up the cat, for the rest of the cat's life; in effect, we provide a "life insurance" policy for these cats so that they never have to end up on "death row" in a shelter again.

Come Meet Our Pets...

CRI Petersburg manages the pet center at the Colonial Heights Petsmart. We respond to the store immediately for adoption interest, and we're also on station every Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Please call to confirm and to ensure the cat you want to see will be at the store that day, since we don't bring all the cats. We normally have cats no younger than six months old. All are spayed/neutered and have distemper and rabies shots, are wormed and tested for feline AIDS and leukemia. As a home-based foster organization, the cats are treated as companion pets. All food and medical bills are paid by the foster family without reimbursement, so adopters are assured that their adoption fees go toward the care and well-being of cats in the organization, many who have staggering medical bills, or who are unadoptable and must be cared for throughout their lifetime by the organization. In general, the basic cost of vetting a normal cat without medical issues is $200-300, so the $75 adoption fee is far below what has been invested in each cat.

Our Adoption Process...

Our contract requires: No declawing (toe amputation) and indoors only. You'll complete an adoption contract and questionnaire, and a Petsmart adoption form. The adoption process takes less than an hour and your new pet can go home with you same day. Cost of adoption: $75, cash only. If a pair are adopted, or a senior cat, a discount price will be available.
