MICKEY's Story...
5/10/12 Mickey I just brought him home two days ago and one thing I obvious Mickey is a sweet dog. He loves belly rubs and butt scratches and exploring the backyard. Best guess as to age is about 4 or 5 years old. He is potty trained but at this point is VERY fearful of sudden movements and may tink a bit from this fear reaction. He also exhibits the same fear reaction when some grabs his collar, however; this does not happen when you put a leash on. In fact he loves the leash because that means he goes for a car ride or for walks. He is a bit of a puller but an Easy-Walk harness solves most of this problem. My thoughts are that Mickey was probably beaten most likely while his abuser held his collar so that he couldnt escape his punishment. The amazing thing is despite the abuse he is not aggressive at all. My other foster Atlee has attempted to play with Mickey, but so far Mickey just rolls over and submits. I have tried to play fetch but if sees my arm swing he runs away in fear. What Mickey needs the most of right now is a lot of love and affection so that he can trust that humans again. He needs to learn that not all humans are as heartless and soulless as his abuser. The poor guy is afraid to eat from his food bowl by himself, but if I hold it for him and stroke him he readily eats all his food. So for now Mickey is on a strict regime of treats, love and affection. With a lot of TLC I am sure he will get more confidence and we can begin to work on things like sit, down and all those other great doggy tricks. The best present he could have a great home with lots of love and affection where no one will beat him again. 6/26/11 Mickey packs a lot of love and energy in that little body. We named him mickey because he has mickey mouse ears. He is energetic, loving and playful. Mic is very well socialized and loves to play with other dogs. THIS GUY IS IN NC AND CAN ONLY COME TO PA IF A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME IS FOUND~ Approximate age-5 years~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE FROM RESCUER: This is one of my favorites at the kennel...I know, I know, he's not the cutest dog. but he has the best heart. Sadly, he's been here over 2 years. He's a pit/black lab mix. He has a lot of energy and loves playing fetch, well he'll go get it, he just doesn't bring it back. I am suppose to chase him. My heart belongs to pits. Mickey is in a play group with 9 other dogs and does very well. could you adopt or foster my little man?

Why Adoption is a Great Option

MICKEY, a Southampton Carolina Dog/Pit Bull Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Carolina Dog/Pit Bull Terrier for sale in Southampton, or seeking a Carolina Dog/Pit Bull Terrier dog from a breeder in Southampton.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Southampton already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Southampton breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Carolina Dog/Pit Bull Terrier breeders who help with Carolina Dog/Pit Bull Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Southampton paves the way for another one to be saved.
