Barney's Story...
Barney is a 3 yr old black male with natural ears. He was surrendered by a family who gave him up because they were relocating and could not take him with them to their new home. Barney is slower to warm up to men and needs time to adjust but once he warms up to you, he is a big, lovable lug. He loves to lean on you and clunk his head on you when he wants attention. Barney is very energetic but will settle down and lay at your feet, if you give him some firm commands. He is a good boy and really wants to please, he does want to trust. Barney gets along wonderfully with his foster Mom's 7 year old female Dane, and also a Greyhound, who is currently being fostered.
He lived with pit bulls in his first home and then was an only dog for the past two years. He seems to really enjoy his foster brother and sister in his foster home.
Barney is being crate trained and taught to walk properly on a leash. He likes to ride in the car now, even though he has not ridden in a car since a puppy, he adapted well to it very quickly. It must be the first chance Barney has had an opportunity to run in a large, fenced yard because he really takes advantage of running playfully "wide open" as fast as he can, in large circles! He has not been cat tested, nor has he been around small dogs. Due to his playful personality, he should not be placed in a home with small children. He has some unusual fears, like gloves and the broom, indicating he may not have had such good experiences in his past with certain objects, but he just backs away and barks to show his dislike. Barney is just acclimating to his foster home and will certainly blossom as he becomes more comfortable there. He is a handsome boy and a good size at about 130 lbs. Training will be a requirement of his adoption. Barney came to MAGDRL in June of 2012.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Barney, a Boonton Great Dane dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Dane for sale in Boonton, or seeking a Great Dane dog from a breeder in Boonton.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Boonton already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Boonton breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Dane breeders who help with Great Dane rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Boonton paves the way for another one to be saved.
