Look who is looking for you!

Mom is a small Border Collie – just over 30 pounds. The pups are beautiful… Border Collie coats and …. short legs. What is in the mix? It’s Corgi.

Sweet, very cute, smart pups. Four Girls – Brown Betsy, Black Bonita, Tri- Barbie and Black Becky (with white toes – they have a variety coats ranging from Corgi to curly BC. The boys are just as cute - Classic Black and White Bradley, Tri-Barkley and Curly Black Bruno.

Very sweet, short and just darling… these kids will be smaller than mom and will likely be between 25 and 30 pounds when fully grown.

We got a call to take in very pregnant Border Collie and then, got a call saying “no hurry”. Buffy and babies came to us when they were 4 days old. Social, sweet, happy and healthy, very people oriented, they are a perfect age to settle into a new home and learn to be the best pups ever. They are great companions for a family with older children or in a home with active adults. They will be very bright and active when they grow up. Pups like this need attention and interaction. These aren’t the babies for long days home alone. A fenced yard and someone who can throw a ball or take a walk is recommended. Border Collie were born for agility and obedience training.

If one of these great pups is the one for you, just go to our website Takeafriendhome.org and click on the link to the application or call 573-889-9691. You can email us at dogs@takeafriendhome.org.

Still babies - at this age they can’t be any more housetrained than you are. The key to housetraining is to expect more of yourself than you do of your dog. With a regular routine, someone to open the door and a walk through the yard, your pup will learn very quickly what you want her to do. Housetraining tips are in your adoption packet.

The pups aren’t Spay/neutered. We don’t do juvenile spay/neuter on babies this young. With our contract, you agree to have your pup altered before he or she is 6 month old. If you would like us to have your pup spayed, when your pup is the right age, we can bring her to our vet and have her or him altered for $60. Our pups have had all of their shots to date and, like all young pups, they require continuing vaccinations until they are 14 -16 weeks old. Our pups are wormed regularly. Micro chipping is $10.

Information on delivery options is below. “About the breed” is at the bottom of the page. We are at PetSmart in Chesterfield, MO on the 1st , 2nd ,and 4th Saturday of every month.

Adoption Fees and Payment Plans: We take credit cards and payments. As with all of our adoptions, we know it is hard to get married on a blind date... even to a wonderful pup. We will take our dog back during the first month and refund your adoption fee less $50. To hold a pup, we ask for a $50 non-refundable deposit.

Delivery and shipping: Dogs can be picked up in St. Louis every weekend. For other locations, we will attempt to arrange delivery. In special situations, we will ship dogs out of state. Airfare for pups and small dogs is $250 – $300, crate and pre-fight exam included.

About the breed: Highly intelligent and trainable, the Border Collie is a very agile dog with plenty of stamina and determination. This is a dog that is eager to please and very quick to learn, which makes him a pleasure to train. He is one of the most trainable of all breeds. This is a well balanced dog with a good temperament and a good nature. The Border Collie is loyal and dedicated, and is both faithful and affectionate to his family. However, despite all of these traits, the Border Collie is not a dog that will be suites to all owners, as he needs a high level of mental and physical stimulation (running, biking, fetching, walking) and will not fare well without this. justdogs.com

The Border Collie is a very intelligent and responsive dog. It excels at obedience, agility and Frisbee (TM). They thrive on praise, are sensitive and very trainable. The Border Collies are commonly used in the agility competitions. Dog sports and games are right up this intelligent dog’s alley. They are perfectionist with a permanent will to please. This breed lives for serving you day in and day out. They are not ideal pets for people who have no plans to spend a lot of time with them. These dogs are too intelligent to lie around the house all day with nothing to do. dogbreedinfo.com

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a hardy, highly intelligent, obedient, protective and devoted dog. Corgis are active. They are usually good with considerate children. They make fine guards, and excellent obedience dogs. Several of these brave dogs have lost their lives defending their homes, as they were too small for the situation.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in St. Louis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a St. Louis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Border Collie/Corgi breeders who help with Border Collie/Corgi rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in St. Louis paves the way for another one to be saved.
