Ellie Mae's Story...
Ellie Mae- is ready for a new home.. Am sure she has a lot of Bird DOG in her- because always has her eyes on birds.. WE do not know what she is.. and there is no option for just black and white freckly good dog!
Down East Animal Refuge is located in Scotland Neck, NC. We are a small group of dedicated people who are determined to make a difference in the life of animals. We have been in existance about five and a half years. In this time we have worked very hard and have rescued over 200 dogs. All of our dogs are spayed and neutered, and are current on shots and heartworm preventative. We are fortunate to have been selected to participate in the first prison/shelter partnership in NC called "A New Leash on Life". In this program, medium custody inmates at Caledonia Prison were carefully selected and taught to teach basic obedience to dogs. This has been a wonderful program that does as much for the inmates as it does for the dogs. All trainers keep a daily diary of the activities, likes and dislikes, and training done on each dog. Many of our dogs have done this program successfully.
