My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Male, black and tan 5 years old. Natural ears, docked tail. Aztec was contacted by the SPCA in Coachella Valley about Lucas. They knew Lucas was a good dog and that Aztec woulc be able to help them out. He was picked up as a stray, but is about 10 lbs. overweight. He did have very long toenails, so it is assumed that Lucas was not abused, but just a little bit neglected.

Lucas is friendly, and enjoys being with people. He is very tolerant of being poked and inspected and just stood there whole time the vet clipped his nails. Lucas rides well in the car and is not "alerted" when he encounters a bunch of barking dogs at the kennel.

It is not known whether or not he is kid or cat friendly, but since Lucas is pretty mellow, he will most likely do ok with kids, still, caution should always be exercised when introducing any dog to kids. Cats, well we won't make any guarantees with any dog and cats, tread this subject at your own peril.

He is crate trained, and is probably housebroken, since he "held it" during a long car ride, and waited until he was in the grass before relieveing himself. He does tug a little on the leash, and responded to initial obedience commands, so he has been taught the basics.

From our expoure to Lucas, our guess would be that he would do best in a home where he gets to hang out, and is not asked to be the canine athlete in the house. Of course, he may change his demeanor if he finds an active friend to play with.

Lucas is a good dog that deserves a second chance.
