Sugar - Black Mouth Cur Mix For Adoption.
Poor Sugar needs her own angel. After her previous owner claimed to have had her for many years - she was just dumped at a kill shelter. Sugar was scheduled to be euthanized there on 25 Jan 2012, prior to being rescued at the 11th hour by Save Our Florida Pets. We later found out that this was the second time that Sugar had been on death row at this high kill shelter. Sugar was devastated and bewildered and obviously pining for her previous home. We think she is around 6-7 yo and on top of that, she is heartworm positive right now - although she has been on treatment for this since we rescued her.
Sugar is very clingy and is trying so hard to please and do the right thing. The previous owner told the shelter that she was good with other dogs, kids and cats and she is housebroken. She is housebroken but she can be arbritary with other dogs - she either loves them or she hates them. So, we err on the side of caution and say that we prefer a home with no other dogs. We have vaccinated Sugar and she is up to date on heartworm and flea preventative. She is also spayed. She desperately needs a very special person or family who will keep her exercise limited for the first year of her treatment (slow kill method) and will enjoy restoring this girl's confidence and faith in people. Sugar just LOVES to watch TV ... and I mean, she really sits there, head tilted and concentrates. She has faced death at two kill shelters we know of, yet she remains so overjoyed with life and adores everybody, her spirit has never been broken despite the odds. Sugar really just wants (and needs) to be somebody's baby; she is very happy to hang around at home and wait for you to come home, regardless if you work long hours. As long as she is can have dedicated snuggle time when you get home, she is in Sugar Heaven! A very simple girl who has a heart of gold and will adore her person unconditionally. She is supposed to be on restricted exercise as she undergoes the slow kill heartworm treatment, but she will need an initial 2-5 minutes burst of excited running around like a looney-tune, and after that, she just wants to be quiet and hug. This is a perfect dog for a single person who works all day and wants to come home to a great companion - you can exercise together with daily walks, and then go snuggle together on the couch in the evenings! She will not go to the bathroom in your house, nor will she chew your furniture and shoes. She loves to go in the car and also hang out at dog-friendly restaurants. A really great dog that just needs a chance with somebody special to call her own.
Sugar's adoption donation is $35 but we are running a special and any of our dogs that are being adopted out prior to 30 June 2012, will get 50% off the adoption donation. So, this beautiful senior is ready to be adopted to a great person for only $15!

Our adoption process is very easy and fast! We ask that you read the descriptions of all of our available dogs and if there are any that catch your eye, please fill out our easy online adoption application. The applications are answered very quickly. If we believe the dog will be a great lifetime match for you (and your family/existing pets), then we will set up an immediate appointment for you to come out and enjoy a playdate. In many instances, where the application has been pre-approved, the adoptive family may take the dog home the same day.
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed, up to date on heartworm and flea preventative. They were all rescued at the 11th hour from a high kill shelter. We are a working horse farm, so we kindly ask that you make an appointment to view dogs in order that we can stop training the horses and give you our undivided attention.
We cannot guarantee that these dogs are fully house-broken, nor can we guarantee that they will not suffer from some form of separation anxiety. Our dogs interact with the other rescues here, they get a lot of attention and a lot of exercise. During the day, they are outside in huge, comfortable, shady kennels and overnight, they live in converted 12 x 12 horse stalls. So, they will need adjusting back to living in a home. We strongly recommend crate training and most of our dogs are crate trained. The crate is not cruel - but rather a place of peace, comfort and security where the dog has its own place to eat, play with toys and sleep in peace. We will let you know if a dog suffers from separation anxiety and advise those dogs will probably be best with a home where somebody is there all time :-)
Please read our home page article "Things To Consider Before You Adopt ..." just to make sure you are fully prepared for this lifetime commitment of welcoming a new family member into your home.

Rescue Group Info...
Here is a little information about the team at Save Our Florida Pets.
Devon is the owner/trainer of Horses In Harmony - A Horse Rescue, Rehabilitation and Training Facility located in Central Florida. Devon has five rescued dogs and two rescued cats of her own, in addition to her ten horses.
Unable to ignore the plight of the thousands of innocent and precious pets that are being needlessly destroyed each year, in the state of Florida alone, Devon wants to take a more pro-active approach to further educating the general public. To save lives, we must begin with education. The importance of spaying and neutering your pets cannot be emphasized enough. Throughout this website, Devon and Angie will regularly post updated videos to help people understand the reality of the unwanted pet and the horrors of the kill shelters. They will also showcase the pets available for adoption via video.
Devon and Angie encourage all pet-related service providers to exchange links with us! Trainers, vets, suppliers, pet-sitters, pet-food manufacturers etc.
Devon can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Angie is the marketing director at Gibson Truck World located in Sanford, Florida. Angie has two dogs, Rhapsody a rescued Catahoula and Cosmo a senior dachshund! She recently lost her rescued cat to cancer.
Angie has also been helping Devon with the horse rescue and rehabilitation since Horses In Harmony's inception back in March 2008.
Angie understands that euthanasia is acceptable for any sick, injured, or suffering animal whose quality of life has been compromised due to extreme pain or discomfort. However, she believes that the general public is unaware that those are not the only animals being destroyed at our local shelters daily. Angie wants to work hard, with Devon, to educate people on the realities of the countless number of adoptable puppies, kittens, dogs, cats, horses, and many other animals, that are put to death before they are even given a chance to find a loving home.
By working directly with these kill shelters, Angie and Devon hope to let people know that there are other options available.
Please follow our progress and send in your thoughts and ideas so we can develop this website into a world of valuable information and ideas.

Our facility is located at 36201 County Road 439, Eustis, FL 32736. We are open 7 days a week, however, we do prefer that appointments are made in advance as we are a working horse farm. We would like to give you our undivided attention when you come to visit, so with enough notice, we can stop training horses in order to spend quality time with you and the dogs!
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed, up to date on heartworm and flea preventative. Our dogs were all rescued at the 11th hour from a high kill shelter. We ask that you review our photos and videos on our website. We have an easy online adoption application and we do respond quickly. Once we have reviewed your application, if all looks great, we will invite you, your family and existing pets to come out and meet our dogs. In some cases, our pre-approved adopters can adopt the dog the very same day if the match is wonderful :-) We strongly encourage you to read our article on our website called "Before You Adopt" prior to entering this lifetime commitment of pet ownership. Our adoption donations range from $35-$85.
