Allister is a three-year-old small Terrier possibly mixed with some Beagle. He was rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter and weighs around 11 lbs. He is very cute but often has a serious face especially when he is being photographed.
Do you have a larger (or smaller) dog who needs a friend but the whole idea of having two large dogs seems overwhelming? Well, consider Allister! He is such an easy dog that his presence will not change your existing world much at all! Allister’s favorite dog at the rescue is my own larger dog Daisy May; his favorite thing to do is to lay right next to her all day long and be her shadow. But Allister can be a friend to a smaller dog as well. When there are other dogs around, he shows an intermittent playful side, which is a delight to watch. The beauty of his personality is far more evident when he has the constant companionship and guidance of a doggie friend.
Allister trots along slightly ahead of you in good form when walking him on the leash. He also rides well in the car. Unlike other Terriers, he is a mellow dog who perks up at meal time or when he wants to play. He does not lift his leg in the house, and is completely potty-trained (though potty reinforcement is required in a new environment). He is crate-trained, but very trustworthy, so he sleeps loose in the house on a pet bed or on a human bed. Towards humans, he is shy and submissive, but friendly, sweet, and endearing. Like most boy dogs, he gravitates primarily to the female dogs in the rescue, mainly Daisy May since she is a bit of a mother figure to him. I am looking to place Allister in a home where there is already another existing dog.
Allister has Grade 1 Luxating Patellas. It is a condition where the back kneecap slips occasionally (3 or 4 strides), then will reposition itself. It is quite common in toy and smaller breeds and does not require any special attention. He has been examined by a vet and deemed to need no special treatment and there are no exercise restrictions. We have extensive video coverage showing Allister running around full speed and that can easily be provided.
Allister is neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Allister, and meet the criteria indicated in his bio, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com or: 626-340-9316. E-mail is preferable. If you wish to phone the rescue, please ensure that you have read the dog’s entire bio and have visited my website at: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com and gone to the Adoption Tab to read about the adoption process; thank you!
