My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for an all round wonderful pup? Meet Cord! This adorable freckle faced tricolor kiddo is just barely a year old, and while he’s still full of puppy, it is clear he has all the makings of a top notch canine companion. He’s fun loving, well-adjusted, and bright, and with one look into his mesmerizing brown eyes your heart will be stolen.

Originally from central Colorado, we don’t know much about his past, ut Cord has already put it behind him and moved on. This young chap is definitely a character and his zest for life is nothing if not
entertaining - he is ready for adventure wherever he can find it! Humans are great, and Cord has been friendly to all the people of all sizes and ages he has met. He also gets along well with other dogs,
and is pretty playful with his canine friends. He especially loves playing tug of war with his foster brother and he will, in fact, pull his blanket out of his crate and torment his foster brother until he
gives in to the play! Cord also loves hopping around as he is being chased or is chasing his doggy friends. Cord does not yet have the concept of play with humans 100% yet! He is just starting to play tug of war with his foster mom. He has begun to go after the Frisbee, but instead of returning it he chooses to throw it into the air and wrestle with it, as he does with most his toys! Yes, Cord loves playing by himself with his toys and is very happy and entertained by doing so…he also thoroughly enjoys chewing, chasing his tail and “fly hunting” in the windows of his foster home. Cord is also great outdoor adventure companion – hiking, running, you name it, Cord will be happy to join you. Cord is quite a swimmer, too - just throw a stick into the lake and off he goes. He rides the back of the ATV; sometimes he and his foster brother just go sit on them while they’re parked in the yard –perhaps waiting to go somewhere, or perhaps they just think it’s cool? We have seen no signs of herding instinct in Cord, and he avoids cats.

Unlike a lot of Border Collies, Cord is not noise sensitive, but he is quite frightened by sprinklers! In between all the action Cord is happy to soak up the love and attention his humans friends give him – he does enjoy lots of it! - although he has an independent side too and sometimes will go find something else to do. As you can probably guess, Cord is a rather busy fellow and this higher energy boy and will need daily hikes or daily runs to be at his best.

Cord came to WBCR with no basic skills - just the ability to love and learn. He is now housebroken, crate trained, and is familiar with the basics like sit, down, stay, leave it and out. His recall is coming
along very well. Cord is a jumper but has realized it does not get him attention, this is still a work in progress but MUCH progress has been made. He walks well on a leash and hikes trails off leash. He does still have a bit of “puppy brain” and is easily distracted, but with kind and consistent training, Cord is sure to learn all the basics and beyond. He will do best with adopters who will provide boundaries for
him, and who will continue his education.

All in all, Cord is a total winner, and he will be happiest in a home with an active family where he will be a full member of the family, loved and included in everything they do. Cord will also do best in a home with people who have the time and energy to devote to completing his education and providing him with the exercise and stimulation that he needs. If you are looking for a young, well-adjusted, glass half full kind of dog, to share a lifetime of adventures with, Cord may be the one for you.
