My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rica's adoption fee is $350.

Rica is a 3 year old Shih Tzu that weighs about 10 pounds. She is spayed, micro chipped and up to date with vaccines. Rica came to Tiny Paws from a shelter where she had been brought in as a stray (our vet feels that she has also had a number of litters as well). She showed a great deal of fear with humans in the beginning, but is slowly learning to trust in a home environment, and can be a very loving little girl. She is happy to greet you in the morning and her tail wags like it’s motor-powered.

I have seen many improvements with Rica; she is fully house trained, eats well, and is very healthy. She loves her toys, and does very well with my grandchildren once she trusts them. Rica will bark loudly when someone comes in the house or at anyone walking by - this is fear of the unknown; once she recognizes the person she will retreat to her safe place, which in my home happens to be the bathroom. Rica is also afraid of the dark - she does not want to go outside after dusk. She likes to sleep next to the toilet beside the tub. She is a little bossy around the other dogs, but she will stand back if told off by them. She wants to play, but I feel she doesn't know how to go about it.

Rica’s ideal home would be with a family that has experience with dogs, and that will give her the space, love and time she needs to learn to trust. Rica will make a great pet in the right home – could it be yours?
