My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pedro – male, vet checked, vaccinated, dewormed, neutered, micro chipped, ~10lbs, ~2yrs (DOB Sept 2010), Chinese Crested.

Chinese Cresteds are non-shedding and *may* be ideal for those with allergies.

Meet Pedro, his past seems to be somewhat of a mystery, he’s just been sprung from a backyard breeder – lucky him, they thought he was too big which has turned out to be a blessing for him. It’s clear that this boy was loved at some point but had the misfortune of somehow ended up spending most of his time caged up in a backyard breeders home. He’s definitely been neglected and is under weight, we’d love to see him gain a few pounds, his ideal weight is probably around 12lbs. When Pedro arrived he was nervous, stinky, grimy and in dire need of a bath. He was bathed the moment he arrived in his foster home and though scared, he was very good, he LOVED the drying off time and has obviously at some point done this before, he was quite content to wrap himself up in the nice clean towel for a cuddle on a lap. He also let his foster mom clip his face, it’s not perfect but he looks much tidier, his nails have also been clipped.

Keep in mind that being hairless doesn’t mean less grooming, it just means a different kind of grooming. Pedro will need a wardrobe as well. He has very pale skin which can easily burn like human skin when in the sun without protection so light t-shirts or sunscreen are a must for Pedro in the summer. Since he has no hair he will also need a winter wardrobe with sweaters and 4-legged coats/jammies for the cold Canadian winters. Here is a GREAT place to order custom made clothing for small dogs at a very reasonable cost, and they are a small, Canadian company! http://laboneyard.com/catalog.php?category=20 .

Pedro loves attention, he’s always following his foster family around and just generally enjoys being with people. He even drags his little bed from room to room so he has a comfy place to sit with you! 4 Legged Love would prefer a home with no small kids under 8yrs. He is good with cats and loves other dogs. He tends to pay little attention to the felines in his foster home and loves to run around, wrestle and play chase with the big and small dogs in his foster home. Pedro is house trained, he is crated trained and currently is given free roam of his home. Pedro has done really well with continued socializing, basic training and over all just need time to learn how to be a family pet again though it seems to be coming to him easily while in his foster home. He is being fostered in the downtown Toronto area and seems to take everything in stride.

FROM PEDRO’S FOSTER MOM:
We just got home from two nights at the cottage and Pedro loved it!
He ran around but stayed close and he even went swimming!
My little half-brother who is three was very gentle with Pedro and they got along well. He hasn't needed the crate and loves to snuggle up in bed at night.
Pedro will be fine in an apartment as long as he gets to go outside for fetch. Oh man does he love fetch!

Pedro is patiently waiting for a family that can love him and help him blossom in to an even greater family companion. Pedro is nicely mannered and it eager to please so it would be a great bonding and confidence building idea for his new family to take him for obedience classes. Pedro walks nicely on a leash without pulling! He travels well in the car, is nicely mannered for grooming and putting clothes on/off. Pedro LOOOOOVES to play fetch! He could play fetch all day with a small tennis ball or regular size ball, if you keep tossing he keeps fetching, it’s absolutely adorable to watch.

Pedro also listens to his name and comes when called, once he is bonded to his new family (usually about 6months-1yr) he’d be a great off leash dog. He’d probably enjoy time at the FENCED off leash parks where he can chase the ball and run around with other dogs his size. Pedro would be awesome as the only dog where he could be the apple of someone’s eye but he’d also make a great second dog since he likes to cuddle with the other dogs for warmth. This is a very sweet little dog looking for a patient loving family to give him his new shot at life, his new family is going to be a very lucky one to be able to have such a loving little character in their lives. Pedro is best suited to a house with a fully fenced yard.
