My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 10/27/12!!!

10/15 Foster Mom Update: "We had a good weekend with Roxie. She is very puppy-like and has that fun loving puppy energy and can even have bouts of "spastic" energy. We've found that even in the midst of her "crazies," if we rub her belly, it is like a magic elixir - - the spell is cast and she calms right down! A good long walk helps with her energy level as well. She's good on a leash. She could use some leash work but what dog doesn't! She's such a petite little peanut that the little pulling she does do at times is not a problem at all. She is beautifully house-trained and is a social butterfly; loving all - human and canine - who come across her path! Roxie is doing so well with her training. She now knows "sit," "come," and is working on her "sit/stay" command which we use before we go out the door.

She has the sweetest temperament - she is gentle and kind and so very loving. And she's also pretty smart! She has figured out that when I give her her kong with the coveted peanut butter that it means I'm leaving her to go out and do some errands. She looks at the kong and then races to the door as in "oh no! 'Think you're going someplace without little old ME?" She is so great in the car and wiggles all over each time a dog or person comes into view! She is a true Golden who leans in for all the pats and rubs she can get. She LOVES furry and fuzzy things to chew but we just re-direct her and she does fine. She is so content to sit and watch the squirrels and birds out of the back glass door. It's her favorite place in the house!"

Bio - Don't plan on keeping your heart when you meet Roxie because she will steal it within minutes. This 2 year-old little lady is beyond beautiful. Her coat is cuddly soft and glistening golden. This little charmer's eyes will absolutely make you melt with their beautiful amber color. It is beyond belief that this loving and sweet angel was subjected to live her entire life in a 4x6 pen! As you watch Roxie’s video, you will see how focused she is on staying close to her human – and that is part of what makes Goldens what they are – true Velcro and lifetime companions.

Roxie has been undergoing treatment for heartworms and will be ready to head to her forever home in late September. She has spent some time living in a foster home and has come out of her shell. While Roxie gets along fine with her foster mom’s two Cocker Spaniels, she has a bit of a bossy personality, especially toward the elder dog. Roxie’s foster mom told SGRR, “She is lively with lots of pent up energy (it is imperative that dogs be kept sedentary while undergoing heartworm treatment). Because of her pent up energy, Roxie likes to dig to expend her energy but she is smart, and if an area were assigned to her and repeatedly shown to her, she could confine herself to her spot. Once she is through with her heartworm treatment and can get some exercise, her need to turn the yard into an 18 hole golf course should subside.

She has a very playful side and loves to “bite” the water that sprays out of the garden hose. Roxie loves all toys and bones - both Nylabones and knuckle bone - but disembowels the soft ones. She is fine in the car and likes to look out the window. She will pee on command when taken out in the evening for a “quickie” – that British thing! She is fine with the cats after they taught her to leave them ALONE. She is excellent with kids and has a very motherly side. Roxie is a huge fan of the kitchen and sees it as a magical place. Extreme vigilance is required so she doesn’t help herself to whatever delicacies might be sitting on the counter.” Roxie would like to snuggle on the sofa and the bed too, but her foster mom discourages her from going on furniture.

All in all this gal has a ton of potential and will blossom in her new owner’s loving care. SGRR will seek to place Roxie in a home where her human is home more often than not and where she will get adequate exercise, training, and socialization. And because she has tried to bolt out of the foster's front door a few times - this is a gal who will always need secure fencing and leashed walks.

Once she is feeling loved and secure, this blonde bombshell is destined to be contently curled up by her human! Oh, but only apply to adopt Roxie if you are prepared to be stopped on the street anytime you take her for a walk. She is THAT beautiful, inside and out!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
